What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

March 2026

March 31st, 2026

I'm hoping this is my last flat out bad post for a while, but it is also a small preview of what's to come for April. I played a bit of Super Tennis last night and am just as bad at it now as I was when I was six years old. The music when you change courts is neat, though, and I love how mode 7 heavy it is! It's a neat game.

Yesterday I found Galaxy.click, a website full of browser based incremental games, and hit their random game button for hours of zoning out. I played one called The Doors Tree, which is a very stripped down, abstract clicker. It was perfect for yesterday. I was tired, my allergies were killing me, and I just wanted to click on stuff. I was content.

I am hoping I can get back on top of things soon, but I'm doing a lazy post again tonight. The Switch 2's boost mode has me going back to games I haven't tried in years, so last night, I re-tried SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. This runs better now, but I still don't love it. Needing to finish every match with the same type of move isn't a very fun mechanic, even though it is flashy. I won't totally give up on this, but it's not up there with the best SNK fighters for me at all.

I also played about five minutes of Monster Survivors, but got too sleepy too fast to get very far. I just ended up shutting it off mid-run.

Last night, in the hopes of doing a bit that kind of fell flat, I was playing budget priced bowling games on Switch. It was a blast, though! I played the less flashy option, Knock 'Em Down! Bowling first. I hadn't really spent much time on this yet, and it was driving me crazy that even throws that looked perfect were ending in 7-10 splits! It'll be interesting to figure out how to counter that, if there is a way to do it.

Crazy Strike Bowling EX, on the other hand, had me tossing out strikes almost immediately, living up to its title. I really enjoyed this, though! I'd only played it for a few minutes a few years ago, since it felt kind of off, but the Switch 2's boost mode really made it feel smoother. It kind of reminds me of a golf MMO I used to play, Pangya, but with bowling instead. Plus, it has a weird little mascot that does bowling alley style animations if you get a good frame! It's a cute charm point.

In the middle of next week, I should be moving to an easier position at work. I have to trade quarterly bonuses for this break, but it'll be very worth it. I'm still really tired today, but hopefully, things'll get better.

Last night, I played Buddy and Lucky Solitaire for such a brief amount of time that I didn't even get a screenshot. It was a crazy day, so I'm not even mad at myself.

March 26th, 2026

I played Q-UP for a few minutes before bed last night. It had been so long since my last play session that I kind of forgot how it worked, but I had an okay time.

March 25th, 2026

I tried a solitaire variant called Old Tommy in Free Solitaire last night. It was frustrating and inflexible, but kind of fun, too. I forgot to get a screenshot, though. Lately, I am not kicking butt.

Tonight is a quick post because I came home and dozed off after checking my mail. Yesterday, I tried to get things in order by running Spirit City: Lofi Sessions. I picked up the garden and train DLC, and they both seem nice so far!

I also kept playing Free Solitaire, and experienced Spider Solitaire. I don't like this as much as Klondike or Tri-Peaks, at least not with one suit. I'll see how it is when the game gets more complicated.

I downloaded a free solitaire game on itch.io last night, called, somewhat mysteriously, Free Solitaire. I'm really happy with it so far. It has 140 variations of solitaire in it, and I want to spend many sessions dozing off as I try to win a game of each. There's a lot of card options, too! It took me too long to learn the wonders of solitaire, but I am having a lovely time.

Yesterday, I just played Pokemon Go. I was on a day trip back to my hometown for a celebration of life, so I caught all the Pokestops I could on the road and around town. I wasn't thinking about screenshots, though, so this is a bit of a dud post.

March 21st, 2026

Last night, I finished off Hidden Cats: The Last of Cats, which was a fun Steam cat-finder with some actual challenge. I might start another Find All game soon. These developers tend to do decent stuff.

I also had a screenshot of Luck Be A Landlord from last night, but I can't remember playing it for anything. I, perhaps, need some extra sleep.

March 20th, 2026

I played a few incremental games on itch.io yesterday, but I'm too wiped out for a longer post. It might not be Sunday until I get to them, but some of them were so cute that I'm excited to share them!

My big gaming accomplishment yesterday, though, was getting a one credit clear in Deathsmiles II!

I was really proud of this, but thinking about it today, it wasn't much of an accomplishment. I played every stage on the lowest rank in Deathsmiles II X Mode, so I could have an easier time of it and use Rosa, my favorite character from the first game. Plus, it's an easier shmup to start, along with so many more petty things I thought rather than just being happy. I hate how mean I am to myself!

All that being said, I did have a good time playing last night, and I'm excited to keep at this game! This may not be such an impressive 1CC, but I have many more to come!

March 19th, 2026

I was really wiped out last night, so I skipped RPG time and only played cat finding games. I went through 100 Fantasy Cats, which shockingly had 200 cats to find. It was completely fine, but nothing super impressive.

I was glad to discover that Hidden Cats: The Last of Cats was saving my progress, too. I fell asleep playing this, so I'll only have 11 cats left to find in my next play session.

I think I'm getting a little burned out, but that happens all the time. The weekend is getting closer every minute!

I finished Dig Deep yesterday, which I checked on every half hour or so. It was bright, cheery, and reasonably satisfying to complete. It also helped me stay focused on more important things just by being there to glance at, so I can't complain. This was 20 cents reasonably spent.

I also started Cat of Monte Cristo, an RPG Maker game that is The Count of Monte Cristo if Edmund Dantes was a cat boy. It needs proofreading, but I think it's charming how much it feels like playing someone's inside joke with their friends. The battle system is ok, too. I started this because I was too lazy to go get my Switch out of the other room, but I'm glad I did.

My last game of the day was Hidden Cats: The Last of Cats. I got pretty far in the bonus stage, but I suspect this doesn't save, so I might have to do it all again.

March 17th, 2026

Today was exhausting, so I am making a very simple post that'll give me more work tomorrow. It'll balance out just fine.

My co-worker and I finished A Way Out last night, which was a blast. The last couple hours were wild, and pretty surprising, too. I was really impressed by a chase sequence that bounced back and forth between both players, though. It was well edited and choreographed, and had me so caught up in the gameplay and story that it wasn't until later I reflected on how hard it must be to make gameplay like that feel natural and fun. Playing an entire story-heavy game in co-op seemed like it could be gimmicky, but it didn't end up going that way at all.

I needed a new idle game to play to numb some stress, so I started Dig Deep, one of my many 20 cent Switch games. It's kind of like an interactive screensaver where you tell people to dig holes, but that was kind of what I needed yesterday.

For my RPG time, I spent some time with Shijou Saikyou Miyamoto Julia, but didn't get very far. I got bogged down by some cutscenes because my Japanese is exceedingly poor. Playing through one mission isn't nothing, though, and I'll get better with kanji the more I read!

March 16th, 2026

I went back to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon last night, but ended up feeling like I needed to level up before seriously tackling the next dungeon. I went around and did some job board missions, seeing if I could get new allies, and might do the same tonight. It would be nice to have more party members!

March 15th, 2026

Yesterday, I was having a fun, but unfocused day. That led to my having RPG time too late to do the next dungeon in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, so I redownloaded a game I'd bought years ago, G-Mode Archives 06: Shijou Saikyou Miyamoto Julia. This is a Switch port of an old Japanese phone RPG, more like Zenonia and the other stuff I used to play on iPod Touch rather than a traditional JRPG. I'll have gameplay screenshots later, since this has short missions and is good for less focused RPG time. I bought this because it was stylish, though, so last night I was snapping screenshots of the neat menu screens.

I also tried Franky, Joe & Dirk: On the Tiles, a baffling Game Boy slide puzzle game with some Dragon's Lair art in it. This dropped me into a rabbit hole trying to figure out how to solve slide puzzles, which made me feel really dumb! At least it's not sokoban.

In the morning and afternoon, I played quite a bit of Buddy and Lucky Solitaire, but forgot to get a screenshot. It is solitaire, so cute as it is, I don't feel the worst about this.

March 14th, 2026

I spent quite a while past my 30 minutes of RPG time on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team last night. I got a slightly longer dungeon with some story elements going into it, finished that, and got the intro to my next dungeon, too. I'm having a very nice time with this!

Before bed, I played a couple of rounds of Buddy and Lucky Solitaire, but I was tired enough that it went pretty badly. It's solitaire, though, so that's completely fine.

March 13th, 2026

Sometimes a post is just not very interesting. Last night I just went around doing missions in Mt. Steel in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. It was nice, but I don't have a ton to say about it! My journey with this game, and Mafty the lovely Zigzagoon, shall continue tomorrow.

March 12th, 2026

I was big into zoning out last night, but I did play through Hidden Cats: St Patrick from Steam. For this series, this was not a bad hidden cats game. A few of them were hidden well enough that I actually had to scour the scene for them, even though it was still on the easy side. I've only got one of these left, and it'll be kind of nice to have this series done with.

I used my half hour of mandated RPG time for the night to go back to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team from there. I was just in Mt. Steel getting my knowledge of the controls and game systems back last night, but it was so charming! It's frustrating that I just kind of forget what I'm playing and bounce to the next thing, but maybe having RPG time will help with that.

March 11th, 2026

Last night, I used my RPG time to finish off Quest Arrest, which was ok in the end. The typos bothered me more than I should have, the ending was anti-climactic, and I felt like I shot too many people for the game to rate me as "good." It was only a bit over an hour long, though, and it was structured well enough that I was interested to see how everything played out. The battle system was neat, too, especially playing for arrests rather than kills. Plus, it's really cool that I could play an indie Game Boy game like this on physical hardware with my Evercade. Gaming can be such a neat hobby, and I love how accessible smaller games are nowadays.

March 10th, 2026

Yesterday was a very fun gaming day! I played another session of A Way Out, for some reason finding it necessary to apologize that I slammed the horn non-stop while driving away from the cops. I really like the variety of stuff to do in this game. Last night in the game, I played basketball, threatened a guy with a blowtorch, got confused by the concept of boats, and repeatedly commented on how character actor-ish the character I'm not playing as looks. It's super fast moving and always tossing out new setpieces. I'm having a great time with it.

While I had the PS4 on, I did a run of the more accessible, but not super-easy mode in Ketsui: Deathtiny, running out of continues as I faced the tiny boss. This is not the best habit I've developed lately.

Later in the night, I continued my quest to play 30 minutes of an RPG a night with Quest Arrest, which is starting to click with me. I don't entirely vibe with the tone, as it feels a bit flash-game-edgy, but the cause and effect gameplay does work well. It's a little on-the-nose to have NPCs chat with me about whatever crime I just tried not to make worse, but it's also kind of cool.

March 9th, 2026

I want to get back to my brief attempt to play at least 30 minutes of an RPG a night, so I started one I think is really short last night, called Light Fairytale: Episode 1. I got it in a bundle years ago and didn't investigate it too deeply, but in the first half hour, I made my anime teens wander around town and also killed some ants. It seems ok so far.

I also played my first round of Vampire Survivors in ages, which was a lot of fun, even if it wasn't super notable.

March 8th, 2026

I was not a very useful human yesterday, but I did play some Pokemon Go. I had it in my head that it would be good to grind the game out in service of completing the Kanto Pokedex, but I was running low on resources. Usually, I go around on my breaks on office days to spin a lot of Pokestops, but I missed out on that because I was sick this week. It was also cold and windy yesterday, so I ended up catching Pokemon from home for a couple hours and doing some parking lot Pokestops. I also dumped an Abra off at a Dominos, but am not totally sure what that accomplished.

I played Crowd City more before bed, too. I have all of the stuff that automatically unlocks done with now, but there's plenty I have to use in-game gold on. It's kind of a meaningless distinction.

March 7th, 2026

Yesterday, I wasn't in much of a gaming mood, but I did run through Gunma's Ambition -You and Me Are Gunma- Reiwa 2nd National Census Edition in the morning. It was a short little clicker game based on Japanese geography and prefectural memes, and I built some tiny off-brand lego sets while my numbers went up. Usually I delete games like this when I'm done with them, but this got to stay on my XBox.

March 6th, 2026

After work last night, I decided I wanted to finish Barbie: Ocean Explorer without accidentally triggering any major bugs. To avoid that, I just played each minigame once, not even thinking about getting 100%, and buzzed to the end in 19 minutes. It was anti-climactic, especially since a lot of the minigames are pretty tedious. There's one where you catch bubbles in rings that's so boring it would have stopped my 100% run dead if I'd gotten there without breaking things, and another where you very slowly drop cannonballs into a very slowly moving barrel that was also very dull. The background art is pretty, though, so I'm not sorry I played this. It's a chill little game with some sparkly stuff and a dolphin. I would have loved this as a kid.

After that, though, I was in shmup mode and got to doing some runs of Gunbird. The Steam port of this I've got has a hard three continue limit, which I don't mind unless it's late at night and I just got a game over one hit from killing the final boss. It's a fun challenge, though, and I ended up flitting around between characters and difficulties last night. It was a nice time.

I finally tried Earthion, too, pictured below with a very overbearing CRT filter that I was relieved I could turn off. This isn't really a style of shooter I'm used to, but it was cool enough that I'll give it more tries! It's fascinating to see what people can wring out of the Sega Genesis with a new, 2025 game, and it's handy to have it on Steam, too.

March 5th, 2026

I caught something wild, I think, because I'm still feeling crummy today. I'm a little more functional today, though, so I can post.

The day before yesterday, I got my Miyoo Mini+ out to play Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire. I then played Download for the PC Engine. It is a horizontal shmup with cool cutscenes and swearing on the game over screen. It also has reasonable checkpoints and infinite continues, so it doesn't feel so daunting to tackle.

I then played an unlicensed version of Solitaire for the NES, which was a lot of fun as a game on an emulation machine! As a cartridge, maybe it would have been dicey, but I enjoyed it as a modern scofflaw. I cleared both the standard and three-draw variants and called it good, which was nice.

Last night, I was zoned out and played Barbie: Ocean Explorer for the Game Boy Color because I thought it might have sparkling dolphins in it. It had some lovely, colorful pixel art, but by trying to 100% the game as I went, I bugged it out, leaving me unable to move to the last area while the game gave me passwords that assumed I'd cleared everything. It was a prime example of high quality licensed mini-game collection business.

March 4th, 2026

I am way under the weather after pushing through the day, so I am going to bed early and planning on a double post tomorrow! I played some interesting stuff last night and don't want to skip it, so please look forward to tomorrow's post! I mean, unless I wuss out tomorrow, too, but that doesn't feel super likely to happen.

March 3rd, 2026

I was sick overnight and for most of today, but I have no idea why. I was okay before bed, though, and played more of A Way Out. I lobbed swear words through discord while escaping prison, doing farm chores, and admiring a really good outdoor cat. I haven't played a game like this before, so I'm glad my friend pushed for it. It makes co-op gaming seem really fun.

I played a few rounds of Crowd City before bed, too. I got quite a bit unlocked and got to sleep well for a couple hours.

March 2nd, 2026

Yesterday, my only gaming was a couple mindless, relaxing hours in Disney Speedstorm. I had no goals and no focus, but I made some characters who seem very nonviolent bomb each other off the track.

March 1st, 2026

I think that for my dumb project where I'm trying to cross stitch every Pokemon, I'll post the previous month's work at the start of the next one. With that being said, here's the six I finished in February. This is below 1% of all Pokemon, which is a little discouraging. I'm happy with what I got done, though! The Fennikin is the only design here I did myself, with the rest coming from Etsy, Pintrest, and a Japanese perler bead site. I'll have links to all my pattern sources once I start a little hub for this project! For now, my March goals are to do that and to hit 2% of Pokemon stitched.

Aside from stitching yesterday, I just played hidden animal games from Steam. Find 100 Frogs was cute, and I liked how the whole game was on a vertical scroll. It gave it a unique feel.

I played a couple stages of Cats Hidden Around the World, which is now titled Travellin' Cats Around the World, too. The individual levels are not crazy or innovative, but it feels like a good deal to have a handful of these in one package. I simply forgot I owned it until yesterday.
