What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?
June 2025
June 24th, 2025
I wanted to play less Picross yesterday, but still wanted to keep some forward momentum going with all my Picross games. Because of that, I sat down to do two puzzles in Picross S: Genesis and Master System Edition. 15 or so puzzles later, I felt satisfied with my pixel clicking and set it aside. It was all very moderate and sensible.

I did some achievement chasing in Vampire Survivors, too, which was fun! It was a nice way to spend some time on a laid back day off work.

Yesterday, I went Picross wild, which was very nice and relaxing. I started this with Picross S: Genesis & Master System Edition, which is still very okay. It's not the best Picross I've ever played, but it's not bad, either.

I played a few puzzles in Kemono Friends Picross, too, just to mix things up. I think this has a bit better variety than the Sega version, but I might just be playing this over such a long period of time that I don't notice doubled up puzzles so quickly.

After that, I felt like I'd been playing a bit too much Picross, so I set my Switch aside to do something else. Within half an hour, I had my 3DS out to play My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. It's a really solid Picross game, and I found myself fixated on it for hours yesterday. The giant Picross puzzle in this, where you fill in individual blocks on a bigger puzzle grid, is very satisfying!

Once I had the 3DS out, all bets were off, so I got my Japanese PS1 set up to play SuperLite 1500 Series: Oekaki Puzzle. It's much older than the other Picross games I was playing, and as such, is more bare bones, but it's still a decent time. It doesn't track mistakes, which adds a little extra challenge, but it's not bad! I'm interested in tackling all 500 puzzles here at some point.

Today has involved less Picross so far, but I'm still having a nice day off! I'll be back and posting again tomorrow.

Yesterday wasn't a big gaming day for me, but I did get started on Picross S: Genesis & Master System Edition. I'm not super impressed by it so far! There's puzzles doubled up between the Picross and Mega Picross modes, just with the hints written out a bit differently. This probably isn't a major problem for a lot of players, but I bounce between the different modes between puzzles playing these, making it very annoying. The color picross is really neat, though.

In my flurry of little activities, I also started a new Sega Genesis game cover puzzle. So far, I've gotten what matters most for every puzzle done- the ESRB rating and the Sega Seal of Quality. I hope this won't be *too* scary and violent for me. I've never done a T-rated jigsaw puzzle before.

I'm trying to do a lot of little activities today, finishing up some crafts and other projects I have started, and was briefly very distracted by the existential horrors of the news. It led to a bit of a late post!
Yesterday, I got fixated on shutting my brain off with some shmups, which did turn out to be fun. I used my lunchbreak at work to try out Deathsmiles in a combo pack I've got on Switch. Even in just my first half hour of play, it had me hooked. I got to fight a really big cow and also a volcano dragon. I'm super excited to play more of this, but I might switch to the Steam port so I can achievement hunt.

I played Sonic Wings Reunion for a while, too, getting my first two of dozens of endings. I think I can get a 1-credit-clear on easy mode in this, even if I'm a bit far from it now. Last night, I was getting 4 or 5 credit clears, but felt frustrated by how wrecked I'd get in the snow level and blobby looking final stage. Messing with training mode gave me some confidence, though, and I'm looking forward to more of this, too.

I took Monday and Tuesday off work, but don't know how much video gaming I'll do. Whether I do or don't play much, it'll be nice to get some rest for a few days.

Things did not line up properly to try the new game I'd been considering last night, but it was fine. Well, the dream I had about a guy cutting giant ants in half with a machete was not fine, but the rest was. I played a few rounds of Candivity until I got bored enough to fall asleep, getting ever closer to being able to delete this from my Switch.

Last night, I was being a whiny baby about my foot blisters, so I just played a little bit of Vampire Survivors. I almost beat the skeleton in the Bone Zone level with the little Among Us blob, and was so frustrated to have Death come in and sweep me out of the level. I think this gives me a path to follow to eventually clear this challenge, though, so my attitude isn't too bad about this.

I have a new game I'd like to start tonight, if everything lines up properly. I need a break from Vampire Survivors again- I'm seeing the EXP gems when I close my eyes, which seems like a bit much. Whatever I play will be fine, though.
June 18th, 2025
I got some big blisters on the side of one of my feet today, because this week keeps getting better and better, so I'm posting tonight while trying out a foot spa that I ordered on a whim a few months ago. I threw in a blueberry scented mini bath bomb that makes the water look bright blue, like in a cartoon, but other than kind of liking that, I don't think it's helping. I ordered some blister pads that'll be here tomorrow because it hurt too much to go to the store for them, and I'm hoping I can knock this rubbish out before I have to walk a bunch on Saturday. This week is not my favorite.
I did continue to have fun with Vampire Survivors last night, but am still a little stuck trying to defeat the giant skeleton ball in one of the bonus levels. I'll figure it out, though, or just earn enough buffs to roll in and decimate it by brute force.

June 17th, 2025
Everyone is being so nice to me today, and I am so tired I want to scream! I feel so bad about being such a rat when I have so many amazing friends and family. I'm going to try to get a good night's sleep, though, and maybe tomorrow will be better! I'll at least be able to dodge the gross coffee I got during a work break that gave me a nasty stomachache.
Yesterday, I continued kicking butt at Vampire Survivors, which was a lot of fun. It made me feel powerful.

I started a mini-puzzle of some pastel macarons, too, which is not great because now I have three puzzles going. It's fun, but takes up a lot of space. I'll get this one done pretty soon, though.

June 16th, 2025
I had to tear myself away from making little 90s/00s beaded gecko charms to do this post tonight, which has been very enjoyable. Yesterday was another low energy day, though, so I don't have too much to write about. I played a ton of Vampire Survivors yesterday, doing a fantastic job at everything aside from the boss I'm trying to kill in the skeleton level. It's frustrating, but in a fun way.

I played a game called Idle Wizard on my XBox, too, because I wanted to see what it was like to play a clicker game on my TV. It was weird, and a bit buggy, too. The cursor never really clicked where it looked like it should have, and the in-game achievements were totally blank! It was still bizarrely compelling, though, so I bet I will play it again.

June 15th, 2025
My focus and energy are still pretty low today, and I still had a random mid-day nap, which isn't very normal for me. Today is a little better than the last few days have been, though. Yesterday was so dicey I got up, went to lunch, came home, played a bit of Meteora's Mystic Merge, and went back to bed. I wasn't doing so well at the game because I was mega sleepy, but I scored another achievement.

After my nap, I played Sonic Wings Reunion, a new shmup which I'd been excited to play. I'd seen and totally get the complaints about how crummy the graphics are here, but the thought of every possible pilot tag team having unique banter and endings was really appealing to me! So far, I am having fun with it. It has weird charm, and I think I'll be able to nab a one-credit-clear in easy mode without too much trouble. I'll have to clear it dozens of times to see every ending, so I'm going to aim for a 1CC in normal, too. Yesterday, though, I was too tired to deal with playing half decently, so I didn't really get anywhere here.

From there, I decided that as tired as I was, I deserved to play a little Vampire Survivors as a treat. Even with that, I only made it through one run, which felt crummy. It was a really good run, though- I got all six of my weapons evolved and laid waste to the lost souls of the library.

I dozed off while working on my current jigsaw puzzle, too, waking up to a very disorienting round of texts from my friends. I still got a lot of the border done, though, so it feels worth sharing!

June 14th, 2025
I am perhaps experiences burnout, so I mostly zoned out yesterday. I did start a new puzzle I'd gotten on Etsy, of the girls from The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't A Guy At All, which is a very nice high school romance manga. I like this one so far, but I've been so wiped out that I barely wanted to do anything.

I ran through some games of Meteora's Mystic Merge, too, playing until I got a trophy and then going to sleep.

June 13th, 2025
Tonight, I am so tired it is almost painful, but I didn't do too much gaming last night. I did finish my Bubsy puzzle last night, which was nice! I have some other Sega Genesis game cover puzzles from the same seller, but my next less-than-1000-piece puzzle is a manga one from Etsy. I started that today, so I'll have a photo of it tomorrow.

In terms of actual games, I was only playing super casual stuff yesterday. I didn't want to actually go for a walk, so I played some Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku. It was fine!

Before bed, I plugged away at Baking Time, too, which was also fine. I was working on levelling up the pets that auto-generate numbers because it doesn't really matter what I do in this. It made me sleepy, and that was enough.

June 12th, 2025
I'm cutting my post close again, just of laziness today. I let Dragon Cliff run while I was working on some other stuff, making brilliant levelling progress while getting a little bored.

I tried Castle of Shikigami right before bed, too, and was bad enough even at Very Easy mode to feel motivated to improve. I kind of want to tackle the Steam achievement list here, but it'll be quite a long road. I'm getting better at shmups every time I play, though, so there's no harm in trying!

June 11th, 2025
I'm running late tonight because I did an oddly timed grocery run after waiting around to avoid a storm that never happened. This will be a quick post! I tried a Survivors-like I had stashed called Carrot Survivors because one of my friends saw the words "carrot quest" at work. It just felt like I was fated to give this game a try after that. It's really fun, and silly! You can make a pixel version of the Initial D car run over eggplants, and I like that in a game.

I did a few runs through the forest in Dragon Cliff, too, but was extremely sleepy and didn't finish any quests. Even though this is an auto-battler, it takes enough grinding that it's not exactly fast.

I worked a bit on my Bubsy puzzle, too! I'm hoping to finish this over the weekend and get back to the Jujutsu Kaisen puzzle.

June 10th, 2025
I did get back on track yesterday, and am feeling reasonably productive today. I'm sleepy, though! This won't be my most amazing post. I did play a couple rounds of Luck Be A Landlord last night, clearing whatever floor I was on. Maybe it was floor 6? I am kind of fried, but I'm somewhere in the middle of the game. I unlocked a new piece type called "essences," and I'm looking forward to seeing what those do.

I played Puzzle and Dragons: Nintendo Switch Edition a little before bed, too. This is much more what I wanted from a Switch version of Puzzle and Dragons than the anime'd up vibe of GOLD, so I had a really nice play session! I don't love the paid gacha in a paid game, but I'll still play again.

June 9th, 2025
I am trying to get back on track today, but didn't really make many efforts in that direction yesterday. I played a couple rounds of Vampire Survivors, which did help me relax a bit.

I worked on my Bubsy puzzle after getting back from the movies, too, which was okay.

June 8th, 2025
I totally wasted my weekend and am very salty with myself about it! I didn't feel good yesterday, so I should be nice to myself, but I haven't done any crafts, or read, or watched movies, or even played games that well. My to-do list for the week is a total lost cause, too. I'm going to do this post, do my next weekly to-do list, go to a night movie, and still be kind of mad at myself. It'll help me get a little bit back on track, though.
Yesterday, I was feeling a little sour that I couldn't play the new Mario Kart because shopping is too hard nowadays, so I picked up Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on Steam. It booted upside down and the configuration menu crashed it, so I refunded it on Steam and then picked it up on XBox. It was fun, but I kind of had a headache and only played a few races.

I did try Hello Kitty & Sanrio Friends Racing on Steam, which was much worse, but seems like it'll be an ok sleepytime game once in a while. I really like Sanrio, so the cuteness balances the jank for me. Kerropi's eyes seemed unsettling, though, like they were the wrong shape. It was a weird thing to be forced to consider.

My mood was really sour before bed, so I bounced between games in my Steam library until I landed on Mega Man X Dive Offline, a port of an old mobile game. I only played this a little, but it seemed ok even through my general disdain towards the state of my guts at that point of the day. It'll be fun to try this again when I'm feeling better.

I want to get back to some RPG gamin' this week, but I maybe won't accomplish that tonight. I'll see what happens!
June 7th, 2025
I'm trying to get back to normal after a tricky week, and it's a steeper road to climb than I'd expected. Since there were building-wide apartment inspections earlier in the week, everything superficially looks okay, but I have a potholder by my work desk, bills on the bookshelf, a big stack of dishes in the sink, and a lot of other fun to deal with. I've got two days to get back to normal before doing the whole cycle again, but it feels daunting!
Because of that, I am very much having a "squirrel away time on little craft projects between important stuff" weekend rather than a gaming one, which is fine! I did do some achievement hunting in Meteora's Mystic Merge last night, doing goofy stuff like disconnecting from the internet to force 10 games to sync, or chucking pieces straight out of the playfield. It's a fun way to play, and makes me wish there were achievements on some of the silly little games I have on Switch.

Other than that, I was pressing forward with offline projects. I finished the axolotl puzzle I'd been working on the night before. It came out really cute, I thought, but the pieces felt kind of wobbly, and it was too easy to get mismatched pieces snapped together. It's tiny, though, and it was nice that it took up so little space.

I started a less-than-official 300 piece puzzle I'd gotten from eBay, too, of the cover of the first Bubsy game on Genesis/Mega Drive. I played this on Super Nintendo back in the day, so I feel as if I am betraying my childhood to do the Sega version of the game as a jigsaw puzzle. I'm pretty impressed with this so far, though, and am looking forward to working on it a bit more.

I also worked a bit on a sticker scene, but the round backdrop and my own sleepiness made it tougher than normal for me to comprehend what I was doing. It's cute, but I felt somewhat dumb trying to piece it all together.

June 6th, 2025
Work has been a struggle this week, so I'm planning to enjoy a weekend of little activities and video games. Last night, I didn't get very far with anything. I started a new small jigsaw puzzle I had, from a brand called Micropuzzles, just out of curiosity. I got pretty far, accidentally launched it across the room when I got surprised by a text alert, and then got pretty far again. It's only 150 pieces, though, tiny as they are, so I should finish tonight.

I played some more 2048 on my Atari, too. I am getting into the swing of this version of the game, and got up to 512 in a couple of rounds last night. I don't think I'll see a 2048 tile for a while, but that's okay! I'm enjoying this.

June 5th, 2025
I got a package from Atari Age yesterday and went a bit too hard playing 2048 on my 7800+. I'm not sure about this as a good way to play 2048, aside from the novelty. When it generates new numbers, it only generates 2, rather than 2 or 4 like most versions of the game. It's a lot of fun, though, and I'm enjoying going for the 2048 tile in this version of the game! Plus, it's neat to have physical copies of weird homebrew titles. The Atari 7800+ is neat.

Before bed, I played a couple rounds of Candivity, too, because I hadn't had enough of merging rubbish. I think this is the worst of these games I have. The pieces kind of gravitate towards each other in a way I don't like that well. It has unlockables, though, giving it a concrete end, so I might press on with it so I can delete it off my Switch.

June 4th, 2025
Today's post has no screenshot because I got caught up playing a super goofy game tonight! Internet maintenance starts in 12 minutes, so I'm trying to go fast! I just played more of Sephirothic Stories last night, though, watching a cutscene and then ignoring my urgent quest to save my toddler sister for, like, some sidequests. It felt very old fashioned.
June 3rd, 2025
I was feeling bleh last night, so I just played another few minutes of Sephirothic Stories. I lost to a boss and went to level up until I could beat it, which went pretty fast. This game has a strange "garden" mechanic, though, where you can basically plant a seed, wait ten minutes, and earn 3 or 4 permanent stat boosts. This isn't a deep enough game to use this for heavy party character customization, but it also makes levelling up very fast and powerful. For something this fluffy, I don't mind the shortcut.

June 2nd, 2025
I'm late posting today just because I'm feeling lazy. Since I'm getting this post done on time anyway, I think that's okay.
I played another half hour or so of Sephirothic Stories last night, pushing the story a little further while completely destroying the enemies that had given me trouble the night before. It's always satisfying when levelling up worked, and I was able to take out a reasonably tough boss, too.

I also played quite a few rounds of Meteora's Mystic Merge, as it was Sunday and I didn't have any reason to hurry through the day. It was repetitive, but soothing, and helped me out of a minor, inexplicable panic.

June 1st, 2025
I'm really sleepy today, but it's Sunday, so that's fine. I had a short tabletop RPG session with friends to get started on a new game, Draw Steel. It seems like it could be fun, and since we're just doing a test session, it's low stress, too.
As far as yesterday goes, I wanted to play a Suika Game-ish thing on my Legion Go, so I landed on Meteora's Mystic Merge. It's based on V-Tubers, which I don't know so much about, but the game itself is 100% what I wanted! It's relaxing, cute, and totally infuriating. Plus, it was free. I might try to get all 46 achievements in this.

I kept going in Sephirothic Stories stories, too, which I'm still enjoying. It's extremely low key, and a cute little fairy made me run through a hallway of swinging blades during last night's play sessions. I died and had to backtrack to level grind, so I tried some sidequests.

Last, but not least, I did another chunk of my Jujutsu Kaisen puzzle. I don't want to sit on the floor tonight, though, so I probably won't work on it tonight.
