What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?
October 2025

This morning, I had my annual vaccinations, so I feel pretty zoned out right now. Yesterday was kind of a laid back game day, though. I beat the second race in Ridge Racer 64, which was an excellent feeling! I haven't done much with the third race, so I don't know if I actually improved at the game overall. I'm getting ahead bit by bit, though!
I got off my butt and went back to playing Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku, too, which was okay! I didn't actually want to play, so it wasn't much fun, but exercise is at least somewhat important! This is a relatively painless way to do it.
Before bed, I played a stage in Vampire Survivors, too. I cleared an unlock, I think just a weapon evolution deal, and that was good. I'll probably get back to it soon!

I went back to trying to clear the second race in Ridge Racer 64 last night, and spent about 45 minutes losing. In fact, I was doing considerably worse than I was the first time I played. It wasn't unwelcome frustration, so I'll keep going with this. I don't expect I'll do well in an arcade racer, so I'm still having a pretty good time getting my butt kicked.

I was really sleepy last night, and had a stomachache after ambitiously opting to clean my plate at Chili's. Because of these challenging circumstances, I just played a couple rounds of Vampire Survivors last night. I did clear an adventure, and found the second coffin in the Castlevania stage, too. After that, however, I shut my game off and slept for 9 hours.

I'm doing a quick post before work today, which is easy, since I just played Ridge Racer 64 last night. I've never really played this style of racer before, at least not with any intent to win, so the drift mechanics are a bit of an uphill battle for me. It feels like a doable challenge, though, so it's much more fun than discouraging. I managed to win the first race, even though it took a lot of tries, and was getting second place in the second race pretty regularly when I shut it off last night.

Last night, I used Switch Online to play the N64 version of Mario Golf with one of my friends. I was surprised by how rough the lag was in spots, even on the Switch 2, but Mario Golf is wonderful and it was an extremely close, fun game. It was easy to get the game running, too. The button presses here are just exact enough that the lag really did sting, and I say that as the game's eventual winner. It would have been nice if it had worked at least a tiny bit better!
I played a few minutes of Sunseed Island before bed, too, watering plants and relaxing. It was nice!

Yesterday, I spent a lot of the evening engaged in normal gaming, eating baked pears and worrying that I was being a little loud with a Tears for Fears playlist as I played the Atari 7800 version of 2048. The vibes were perfect, but I kept getting frustratingly close to the 2048 tile and cluttering up my whole screen with 2 and 4 tiles. I can't decide if this version of the game only generating 2s makes it easier or harder, but it was definitely a feature I cursed last night.
Other than that, I was in kind of a fighting game mood yesterday, so I zipped through some arcade modes in Soul Calibur 2. Xianghua went first, since my main is not yet unlocked, and that was fine.
I played as Talim a lot back when this was new, so she got the second playthrough. Her pink alternate outfit is very cute and magical-girl-ish, so I'm disappointed I didn't get a better screenshot of it. I'm sure I'll use her in weapon master mode, though.
Link went last for the day, and was probably the hardest of my three playthroughs. I'll need to get a little better with him, as I kept accidentally cancelling out my bomb throws and doing nonsense like that. He's not bad. I'm just not as used to playing as him.
After all that, I tried Killer Instinct Gold on Switch Online and got spectacularly decimated by the AI. I was somewhat persistent with it, and managed to get slightly better, but save stated my arcade run to come back later. I should be able to make headway with this game, once I better figure out how all the combo stuff works. It just didn't click with me yet yesterday.
Finally, I also played some Vampire Survivors, managing 8 or 9 unlocks and getting some new characters with them. I cleared the final bosses in the Contra and Among Us DLC stages, both of which were pretty impressive. It felt like I made some real progress!

Yesterday afternoon, I sat down for an hour or so to just play through some hidden cats games. I was in the mood for it, and would have played more than five were it not for the mess that it has made this blog for today. It was a good amount, though!
I'll start with the three that felt like the same game chopped into pieces: Hidden Cats: Spooky, Hidden Cats: Halloween, and Hidden Cats: Haunted Mansion. They all had the same color scheme and very similar, if not the same music. I also think I played them most difficult to easiest, which made the experience feel strange.. I got these so cheaply in a bundle that I'm mystified as to why these weren't just strung together into one game. Around Christmas, I'll be dipping back into this series, though, and I'm curious to see if the three winter games are the same way.
From there, I played Hidden Cosmo Cats, which isn't technically a Halloween game. It had a big monster, though, so I'm counting it. The little cats are certainly braver about this whole thing than I would be.
The last and best hidden animals game I played yesterday was Hidden Capybaras with Oranges and Pumpkins: Spooky Halloween Edition. Even though this was more of a hidden capybaras game, it did have five high quality hidden cats to find. This game looked nice, had some nice smaller sets of hidden objects to find, and wasn't too lazy about hiding the capybaras. It was solid, as far as these things go!
I also played some more normal games yesterday, because I was unproductive yesterday! I tackled another grand prix in Mario Kart World, unlocking Donkey Kong's single alternate outfit and getting Daisy unlocked as a driver. It was a satisfying play session.
I tried Gunbird, too, which was a very entertaining shooter! It's set to 3 credits by default, which I left as is. I wasn't able to get to the end that way, even on the easiest difficulty, but I'll get there eventually.
My Vampire Survivors session for the night was really excellent, too! I got three or four unlocks, which I was happy with, and finally cracked the code on how to get to level 80 on the inverse levels. It made me feel very smart and talented, when in fact, the key was just reading character skills before selecting them. A victory is a victory, though.
October 18th, 2025
I am just doing a quick post before lunch today! I'm going to go get Thai food, so I am in a rather good mood.
Last night, I puttered around a bit more in Mario Kart World. I cleared the first 50cc grand prix and got all of the alternate outfits unlocked for Shy Guy and Toad. It was very nice and laid back.
I also played a couple rounds of Vampire Survivors, doing the first two weapon banishing unlocks and then promptly getting wrecked because I wasted all my level ups on banishing weapons. The "banish 40 weapons" mission is going to be a bit tricky, but I welcome the challenge.

I actually got a chance to play Switch 2 for a few minutes last night, but truly only for a few minutes. I've been so sleepy this week! I did a knockout tour race in Mario Kart World, which was decent enough. It was very shocking to see that Pauline only has one unlockable outfit, but fine otherwise.
With a little more excitement, I also did the first two stages of Weapon Master Mode in Soul Calibur II. This is probably one of my all time favorite games, so I'm hoping to dig into it quite a lot more this weekend! It still feels so nice to play!
As per usual, though, my focus was on Vampire Survivors. I only played one round last night, but got one of the easier "get this character to level 80" unlocks out of the way, scoring myself some more re-rolls for the missions where I need them. I felt very satisfied by my little accomplishment.
I was thinking of doing a "no new game starts" week again, but I have some cute little Halloween hidden cat games I want to play in the next few days. I might do a few of those this weekend and focus back in on games I've already got going during the week. It doesn't matter either way, but there is slight power in planning ahead.
October 16th, 2025
Last night, I did not actually play my shiny new Switch 2 because I was nervous about a doctor's appointment and heard some unpleasant noises from outside. I played a couple rounds of Vampire Survivors and then just went to bed. I'm trying to do the "reach level 80 in the Inverted Mad Forest" unlock mission and not quite getting there, but I was getting closer every try. I think I'll have it in my next play session.
I ran Incremental Epic Hero for a while, too, and it already wants me to start using prestige mechanics to start over. I don't want to, so it is altogether possible that I just quit from here.
October 15th, 2025
I had some nice things happen with my job, so I got a Switch 2 tonight. I want to be responsible and organized about starting and finishing games on it, but it will be really difficult. I'll see how it goes.
Last night, I was super tired, so I only did low energy gaming. I started Incremental Epic Hero on Steam, which feels like it'll be a pleasant, low key idle game that'll take hundreds of hours to clear. I'm just going to let it run while I do other stuff and see if I can get all of the achievements.
I tried Aquapark.io, too, which I'm not sure if I'll play again. This was a cheap little stick figure game on Switch, about racing down waterslides, but the amazing sense of speed kind of made me nauseous. It's interesting, but maybe not worth it for me.
Right before bed, I played a little of Sunseed Island, too. Even though I only played a few minutes, I had a nice time and felt like I made ok progress. It was good!

No one came to fix my internet yesterday, but it came back at the very moment my maintenance appointment was scheduled. I'm sure I should be mad about this, somehow, but since the days I didn't have service are getting knocked off my monthly bill, I don't feel scammed or anything. My choice is to shrug this off as kind of funny and get on with my life.
I was too lazy to get all my page updates and new game pages set up last night. Since I had a really early blood test this morning, I regretted this tonight, but got it done anyway. Unfortunately, I also did a decent amount of gaming yesterday!
The niftiest thing I played yesterday was Sanrio Shanghai, a mahjong solitaire game for the SNES featuring some extremely cute Sanrio tilesets! It was very easy to clear all available boards, as this is a kid's game. I liked seeing all the Keroppi and Hangyodon characters Sanrio was pushing in the mid-90s, though, and it had some good tile matching music, too! I also liked that, when I was playing the 24-tile layout over and over again like a lunatic, there was a one screen maze or "spot the tile without a partner" minigame every few levels. As an adult, this is very easy and simple, but if I'd had this in grade school, I would have loved it. It's bright, cheery, and well made.
It was a lot more utilitarian, but I also finished Jigsaw Puzzle- Anime Girls. This was fine for what it was. It was also easy, but I paid an incredibly low amount for it in a bundle and it worked decently. I really like jigsaw puzzles, so I was pleased with this. There's several more games from this bundle to go!
Least eventfully, I played a few rounds of Vampire Survivors, too. Since it uses Steam cloud saves, I was afraid to play it and mess up my save file when the internet was down. It was a lot of fun to get back to it!
October 13th, 2025
I'll have to pop back in for some tidying up later today, but I'm posting while waiting for the internet maintenance guy to show up now. I have some unreasonable concern thar he won't actually pop up, but am hoping for the best!
I've been thinking about Pokemon too much the last few days, so I ended up playing a bit of Pokemon Trozei last night. It's a very solid DS puzzle game that I pop back to every few years, but I always forget how cute the art style is! It's very bright and pop art-ish.
October 12th, 2025
My internet outage has not been so bad, but I'm still hoping it'll end tomorrow morning! If not, that's okay, but working alone in my job's giant office has been unexpectedly weird! No Youtube is fine, but motion activated lights flicking off all around me is not.
In terms of games, I tried a Switch farming game called Sunseed Island yesterday. It's very simple and cute, but the fishing is surprisingly difficult and reflex-based! I'm not sure what to make of it yet.
I also did some fairly bad runs in Deathsmiles and Deathsmiles II, but I was talking to people in a loud room while playing. Sometimes it's totally fine when I don't do my best.
October 11th, 2025
Last night, I did not play Sega Saturn. I watched bargain DVDs of Pokemom movies and then, realizing I could play Steam games offline, proceeded to buzz through half of Jigsaw Puzzles-Anime Girls. It is a janky little game where the puzzles have been tossed into a template that's still labeled for photos of European scenery, but it does the job as far as virtual jigsaw puzzles go.
October 10th, 2025
I'm posting during break from an empty office today, which is an interesting, but slightly spooky vibe. I got really fixated on paint by number last night, so I ended up just playing Bomb Cat for a little while before bed. I did well enough to become re-convinced that merging up to the largest item is possible, just massively frustrating. Still, I kind of want to play Saturn tonight instead.
October 9th, 2025
I kind of burned myself out talking to tech support for my ISP last night, so I just played a couple levels of Pocket Quest before bed. Sometimes, a slow-paced match-3 game is my maximum speed.
October 8th, 2025
Today, my ISP broke my internet access during routine maintenance, so I won't have real internet until Monday. I'm just going to post from my phone until then, but there won't be any screenshots or new game pages for a few days. This probably bothers me more than anyone reading, so it is ok!
Last night, I tried the demo for a nifty new shmup called Shockwave Triggers. I was tired enough not to get so far in it, even on the easiest mode, but the way it's set up made grabbing scoring items massively satisfying. The pixel art was neat, too! I don't know if I'll be able to play steam games offline at all, but I'm excited to mess with this more when I can.
I played through a couple unlock goals in Vampire Survivors, too, and am bereft that I may need to leave this chaos behind for a few days. It is ok, though! I have tons of fun offline games to play, too.
October 7th, 2025
Tonight, I am pretty disengaged with the world, so I'm glad I don't have too much to write about. I got another bad ending in Unfair Flips, which was decently funny.
I also knocked out a few more unlock missions in Vampire Survivors, feeling like I made some decent progress.
October 6th, 2025
I am getting back to my game-finishing quest, which Ys III: Wanderers From Ys is now a part of. I cleared the first dungeon last night, then kind of got distracted and ate pizza rolls because I was tired. I might not get back to this until the weekend, but I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.
I kept up with trying to make a dent in the endless content of Vampire Survivors, too, which was really fun. I'm over 50 hours in, and it still manages to have strange and surprising moments after all this time. It's pretty impressive!
October 5th, 2025
I went on a weekend trip after my post yesterday, which was really fun! I saw a beautiful greenhouse and ate a lot of delicious food, and, as is common nowadays, started playing Ys III: Wanderers From Ys in the AirBnB. I've been wanting to play another side-scrolling 2D RPG since finishing Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, and Zelda II didn't hit for me. This does, though, and I had a really nice time starting it! I had to quit after about an hour and a half, since I'm a total lightweight and half a beer killed my reflexes, but I will absolutely be back to this. Perhaps I already have been!
I played a little bit of Isekai Rondo, too, since it seemed easy to play something on my phone. I scooted the story forward a little, which was nice, and feel like I'm making good progress. It's a breezy litle RPG.
October 4th, 2025
This morning, I was really delighted to get an extremely low quality fake Labubu at the gas stations. Her name is Joanie and she loves Nascar and doing shots. Her diet used to be mainly roller hot dogs and pizza by the slice, but since the gas station rebranded, she's getting a little healthier with some pre-made deli sandwiches. It's likely she won't be thrilled to come into such a soup and salad heavy home, but I think it'll be good for her in the long run. All the seams in her fluff seem like evidence of a health issue.
Cut-rate pop culture ephmera aside, I had some decent game time last night. I picked up Unfair Flips after seeing a few seconds of it on Youtube, which is just a game about struggling against probability. The goal is to flip 10 heads in a row, but you're playing with a coin that's rigged against you. You can level up to improve your odds, but nothing is guaranteed. It's the perfect get-sleepy game, and I look forward to playing it until I pass out many more times.
I scored some more unlocks in Vampire Survivors, too, which was fun. I'm loading Charlotte from the Castlevania DLC up with stat boosting eggs because I did a nice perler bead of her once. I've made moves in games for dumber reasons than this.
October 3rd, 2025
Last night, I was set on playing spooky games for October, so I worked on the Castlevania DLC in Vampire Survivors. It was fun and I got a lot of unlocks. Plus, this DLC seems like an insane deal for the price right now. It might take me the whole month, and that would be great.
I tried to get through Cotton 100%, too, and had a good time. This is super petty on my end, but I don't think I'm going to try to one credit clear this because I don't like the music in it. I do want to scum my way through it on easy, though, and think that's extremely possible. I got up to level 4 before quitting last night, and'll probably try again soon.
October 2nd, 2025
I'm doing a quick lunch break post today, which was easy considering that I didn't play much last night. I did three or four puzzles to press on in Hidden Shapes: Lovely Cats, which I should have done in the next few days.
From there, I just wanted to relax enough to get some sleep, so I played a couple rounds of Meteora's Mystic Merge. I got a couple more of this game's achievements, which was satisfying!
October 1st, 2025
Last night, I didn't do much gaming, but it's because I went to see the 4k restoration of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, not because my mood was bad. I know it's very elder millenial to say stuff like this, but it's so cool I can just go to the theater to see anime movies nowadays! It's fun to have anime be accessible and affordable like it is right now, and it put me in a decent mood.
The movie did eat up a lot of my time, though, so I just played a few rounds of Horses.io after uninstalling a few more Steam games I had installed. This is a weird little game with screaming horses, but it was completely fine to kill ten minutes before bed.
