What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?
KOF: Sky Stage (PSP, XBox Series S)
November 3rd, 2025
Last night, I hit the end of KOF Sky Stage, a King of Fighters shmup, using the credit limits the game gave me starting off. This was one of the first shmups I played years ago, when I first got my PSP, and at that point I thought I wasn't having fun because I was bad at shmups. Now that I've played a few more and spent some more time with the genre, I just don't think this is a very fun game. There are a lot of shmups I want to clear as every characters, on a lot of difficulties, or with one credit. For this game, clearing it once is going to be enough. I am going to delete it off of my XBox and be free.
Earlier in the day, I saw a super casual hidden object game I wanted in the Switch eShop. I'm trying to be responsible, even about buying cheap games, so I decided to see if I could buzz through a similar game I already had first. I went with Snug Finder, which is kind of a speed based hidden object game. The first half of it was pretty fun, even though the time gimmick kind of falls apart as soon as you know where everything is. There's only 6 to 10 objects on every screen, so it's too easy to memorize after just one go. I'm still looking forward to going back for the rest of this, though. It's pleasant.

I'm having trouble focusing on posting today, but am working rather steadily to make a tiny diamond painting of Marian from the NES version of Double Dragon. It's a game related project, so it's fair game! I used to get the supplies for these at Jo-Ann's, and, luckily, have a decent amount on hand right now. When I was thinking about the background for this, though, I got so frustrated that I can't just go to the store and take a look at the available gem colors. These are still available to order online from the company that makes them, so it's not like I'm cut out, but I'll miss being able to try to eyeball things in person. It sucks!
Oh, this is a games blog, though, right? Last night, I played King of Fighters: Sky Stage for a little bit, and was still struggling with it. I'm struggling a little less now, though, especially playing as Kyo. I don't love this game, as it's somehow both boring and overwhelming at once, but I'll keep chipping away at it from time to time.
I tried W.A.N.D. Project on Switch last night, too, a wave-based survivors-like with magical girl vibes. It hasn't clicked with me yet, but it has a needlessly complicated power up system that I kind of like. The challenge level is pleasantly frustrating, too.
I also chipped away at the unlockables in Candivity, which was fine. I merged many sweets.

I finished my Sims 4 quest last night, and it all went disappointingly well. It was fun to embrace the chaos of the game on a track, so I think I'm going to keep up with goal-setting, whether it's provided by the game or not. I don't want to buy any game packs or expansions yet, though, so I might just do some fishing next.
My XBox was already on for Sims 4, so I played KOF: Sky Stage for a little bit once all that was over. I'm not sure how much I like this, but once you reach a level, you can just select it as your starting point. I might use that as a cheat to get through the game as every character, but I don't know yet.

I was cleaning most of yesterday, so I did more game dabbling than anything. It was my last day with Raging Blasters for the week, before I swap out to something different, and I just played half an hour of caravan mode. I'd like to get over a million points, but I couldn't get through the three minutes without dying last night! I guess that's what I get for playing ridiculously late, though.
While thinking about what shmup to play next, I messed around with a couple I had on hand for a few minutes. I booted up my PSP to play a couple levels of KOF: Sky Stage, a King of Fighters themed bullet hell game. I played this quite a lot in the past, and my failures with this a decade ago are part of why I want to get better skills now. In the future, I'll play this more in-depth, so I ended up picking it up on XBox Arcade for slightly better convenience.
I gave Robotech: The Macross Saga: HD Edition another chance, too, but I just don't like this that well. The jet controls feel super slippery, and the mechs are extremely slow and clunky, though the Gerwalk form between the two is okay enough. It feels really unforgiving, too. I do want to see who the hidden characters are, so I'm not writing it off yet. It would be very fun if I could make Minmei hop in a Valkrie and start blasting away at the Zentradi, but the cast is good enough that almost no one would be a disappointment. I'm not excited for the gameplay itself, though.
In terms of normal stuff, I cleared another barista's run in Sweet Survivors while on my exercise bike last night. I've got five more runs I'd like to complete in this, a couple of which might be a bit tricky, and'll probably call it good from there.
While I was waiting for dessert, I played a bit of Water Sort Quest, too. It was lovely dessert, but the game has not gotten more exciting since I last played it.
