What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

Supersonic Tank Cats (Switch)

August 4th, 2025

Yesterday, I decided to see if I could get Hello Kitty and Sanrio Friends Racing over and done with. It wasn't very fun! The race opponent AI was so bad that I won the final race when every single one of them got stuck on a hill. Keroppi drove past the jam-up on the last lap, and then I watched his little car turn around to join them in the purgatory of gentle slopes. The boat controls made the apple collection missions on water really miserable, too, with turns that were difficult to control and godawful terrible drifting.

The graphics are cheerful and sunny, though, and as a proud cute-stuff-liker, I have to admit that I really liked a lot of the track details. The vehicle colors were all vibrant, all the characters got cute little race outfits, and it was all just very colorful and pleasant to look at. It's a shame it wasn't actually fun, but I can't say there was nothing I enjoyed here. I just wish all these cute designs had been used for blind bags and stationery, not a rubbish kart racer.

That being said, the slowness of Hello Kitty and Sanrio Friends Racing makes the 20 tedious missions a lot more doable than the unhinged speed at which Supersonic Tank Cats operates. I kind of like the races in Supersonic Tank Cats, but the controls are not well suited to the precision collection missions require, at least on Switch.

In non-racer gaming, Ad SHOOt got patched on Switch, so I gave that another try. It actually fixed up a lot of the slowdown issues I'd been having, so I got to the stage 3 boss in one credit last night. I do think the gimmicky bosses are more fun to play than the stages, so I'm not sure if I want to try and one credit clear this on easy yet. There's still enough slowdown present that I think I'd have to pick this up on Steam for a real chance. It's fun, though, so for now, I'll just enjoy it.

Even though it's been a couple years since I last played it, I played the first Grand Prix in Supersonic Tank Cats last night. I had problems with it before, but last night, I actually had quite a lot of fun with it! It had nice speed, and I kind of found the low poly backgrounds charming. It helps that it was a free game, but I liked making my cat go zoom. Since I'm currently in kart racer mode, I'll go back for the other two cups, too.

I'm posting late tonight because I had to log into work slightly early, as I eat a lovely meal of tandoori spiced lentils over rice. I am content.

Yesterday was a fairly okay day, once I cleared another fight with my internet provider. Thinking about games I hadn't played for a bit, I ended up really playing the hell out of Disney Tsum Tsum after watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I wanted to see why the app icon had changed to the Kingdom Hearts characters, but there was nothing special connected to that going on in the game itself. I got everything back up to the level where I can gain 1000+ coins per game, though, and that felt great.

Before bed, though, I wanted to play something I'd only given one chance before, so I played a Quick Race in Supersonic Tank Cats. It felt a little janky, but it was a free game, so I can't complain much. The colors were good and the tank cat was a tank cat.

December 10th, 2022

Hello! I'm more up and at em than I have been to post the last few days today, due to spending the morning frustrated with my car insurance company. I did not have an accident or anything- they were just frustrating in regards to billing stuff. Even if it didn't really end in my favor, though, I bought a fancy sugar cookie latte, have some 80s J-pop on, and am in a much better mood just by merit of all that being over.

Today's post will start with website stuff rather than game stuff, so thanks for your patience! This week was crummy, so I didn't post about this sooner, but Gummy, the renowned webmaster of The Gumball Machine, made me a site button this week! It's so cute, too- check it out! (Speaking of, you should also check out Gummy's website, linked above! They do a Daily DYK feature, and the fun facts come highly recommended. Plus, the Chobits site theme is nifty.)

I've been a little stuck about some things I want to do to improve my website, but either late this month or early 2023, I want to add a communication/contact/community page, with links, a chatbox, and maybe a couple other things if I can decide what they'll be. Whenever I sat down before this week and tried to plan it, though, I either went "too much, I'm out!" or tried to make a button, which involved pushing myself to do intricate sprite art that I would then get frustrated and immediately delete. This site button made me feel like "ah, now I get it," which was really exciting.

For the time being, it will be at least a week before I have buttons and links added. I can see how it'll come together now, though, and that feels great. I also have some boring and practical stuff I'd like to do here, but I'll write about that when I get to it.

In any case, thank you, Gummy!

Game-wise yesterday, I'm mercenary enough to mess with the holiday season free shovelware chains that pop up on Switch, and yesterday's free game in the No Gravity Games chain was called Supersonic Tank Cats. It seemed pretty broken- it's a kart racer, but it popped up the "Wrong Way" message for no reasons a few times, and it missed counting some of my laps. Neither of those affected my outcomes, since the laps going uncounted affected the AI, too, but it was weird. The difficulty on the challenge missions was all over the map, too. The important thing is, though, that there are tank cats, which is a good concept, and you can pet them, which is even better. I'll definitely play this again.

Today's free game was about cats again. I will also be playing that.

I also kept up with Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories, which got me with a jump scare last night! I still really enjoy this game, and the fact that my character is now waltzing around in the wake of a disaster in a crisp and clean chef's hat does not make me enjoy it less.

I think today I'll end up playing a few different games for short play sessions, so tomorrow might be a long post again. On weekends, though, that's certainly no problem! I hope all of you out there are having decent weekends, too!
