What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?
The Pinball Arcade (PS4)
October 20th, 2024
Today, I'm not having a great time focusing, but I played quite a few different games yesterday. Because of that, I stalled out doing this post as long as I could. I'm going to scum through it the best I can!
I started and finished a short, sitcom-y visual novel from itch.io, The Ice Cream Culprit, yesterday afternoon. It was cute, even though I thought it was a bit mean spirited towards the dippy girl character, and getting all of the endings was pretty straightforward. It probably took about 15 minutes overall, and it was worth at least that much.
Closer to the end of the night, I wanted to play some virtual pinball, so I downloaded the free launchers for The Pinball Arcade and Pinball FX on my PS4. First, I tried The Pinball Arcade, which was pretty much exactly what I wanted. The free table, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, is one I've seen in person but not played before. It felt decent, though, with the controller rumble giving it a more realistic vibe than I'd expected, and the pixel display in the upper left of the screen looking pretty great.
Comparatively, at least in the few minutes I played each, Pinball FX felt flashier and zippier, but a little more "weightless," too. I tried each of the three free tables, though, and had a lot of fun here, too. I didn't play either that long, though, so I'll have more of an opinion later, I'm sure!
Throughout the day, I played some of Prison Noctis, too. I didn't get anywhere, storywise, but merging stuff was laid back and enjoyable.
