What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

100 Cats New York (Lenovo Legion Go)

November 22nd, 2024

Fridays at work are never fun, so I cannot will myself to wake up and get peppy. Last night, though, I spent an hour or so messing around with Steam games. I cleared the non-DLC part of 100 Cats New York, a free hidden object game. It was enjoyable and cute, but maybe too easy. I had it done in 15 or 20 minutes. It was free, though, so it's hard to be bent out of shape about it.

Since I'm still in reading mode, I started a fluffy visual novel/otome game, too, The Villainess Is Adored By the Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom. I think the way that "reincarnated into an otome game" light novels (kind of, very roughly, like a cross between a YA series and an old school pulp paperback, for people less engrossed in this particular bit of nerddom) iterate on each other is really interesting, so I'm playing this mostly because it covers a series that I don't think is translated into English yet. I'm not past the hit-all-the-tropes setup here yet, so I can't say a ton about this overall. From what I've played, though, the art is pretty and the translation is mind-boggling. It's readable for sure, but off in some very fascinating ways. I'm looking forward to reading more, but I haven't seen a game this strangely written since King of Fighters '99 had a character declare, "I'm not your sister, puke." It's interesting!
