What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee (Switch)

December 12th, 2023

My energy level is zero tonight, but that is ok. I don't have to do anything and can go to bed early.

Last night, I played Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee for about an hour and felt a little bored. The middle part of the game feels a little like a checklist to me, and I'm salty that I can't play slots for a Porygon. I might play something else tonight for a small break.

I write to thee tonight a fool. I have been having trouble with hand shakiness lately, which has been a problem my whole life, but worse lately. I really wanted soup tonight, though, so I made a pot of soup and am now experiencing dinner's hard mode. It's super good, though. I shall never abandon soup.

Anyway, last night I returned to Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee and played quite a lot. I cleared the Saffron City fighting dojo and nabbed a Hitmonchan, then went to fight Erika. My next moves are pretty limited at the moment, so I'll either do some route trainer battles or the Celadon City Game Corner dungeon tonight. I am determined to become a person who finishes RPGs.

I felt really down yesterday, so I spent more time than usual aimlessly wandering in Fashion Dreamer. It wasn't fun, exactly, but it helped me clear my head.

I also dodged all the trainers I could to visit Celadon City in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee. There's so many cute buildings and strange NPCs in this area, and I like the game center "dungeon," too, so this is my favorite area in Kanto.

I'm doing a late lunch break post today because I couldn't sleep at night and slept too much in the morning. Yesterday sucked, though, so that is ok!

Last night, to cheer up, I built a tiny Mega Blocks Togepi I'd picked up while grabbing my prescriptions at Target. It has more blocks going on inside the egg than I'd expected, but was cute and easy. I'm pleased with it.

I pressed on with Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, too, fighting the trainers south of Lavender Town on the fishing path.

I got out of bed at a decent time today, and'll be able to run errands before work! This feels like a small, but powerful victory.

In terms of games, I turned Fashion Dreamer on after work just to see what was going on. Another player had been kind enough to share their versions of the event items they'd been able to pick up before it shut down with me, so I went and passed what I could to a few other players. From there, I tossed on my recolor of a manga magazine collaboration before shutting the game off for the night, since that's going to end up being a limited item, too.

I got through Rock Tunnel in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, too. It was a lot smaller than I remembered, but that gauntlet of trainer battles was tough for me when I was a kid playing her first RPG! Of course, this was an easier version of it, but I was also massively overleveled. Tonight, I'll probably tackle a route's worth of trainer battles or knock out Lavender Town.

Being awake is bad today, and it wasn't my favorite last night, either. I beat most of the trainers between Celadon City and the Rock Tunnel in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, though. I'll probably go a little further tonight, too.

I'm up and drinking my coffee on a Sunday where, weirdly, I actually have stuff to do! I'm going to see Godzilla: Minus One in a little bit here, which I'm super excited for, and I'm playing D&D with friends tonight. It'll be a nice day!

Yesterday, I actually played games for quite a while. I remembered pretty suddenly that last New Year's Eve, I told a friend who had repeatedly recommended it that 2023 would be the year I actually played Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I highly doubt that this got committed to memory on anyone's end but my own, but I sat and played the first two hours of it yesterday, set on achieving this goal. I like games where you jump around lush green locales, so even though I'm horrible at shooting in games, it was a nice start.

I played a lot of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, too, level grinding and fighting Lt. Surge's gym during a voice chat. Rock Tunnel is maybe my least favorite part of Red/Blue/Yellow, so I'm not looking forward to that coming up next, but I shall clear it and move forward.

I didn't oversleep today, but I laid in bed an hour longer than I needed to reading manga on my phone. It was good; I love weekends. It's not a gaming goal, but I want to get back on track with reading today after a comics-only week. I read 11 graphic novels worth, so it's not like I was slacking, but usually I'm reading more standard prose at the same time. Past just that, I want to focus better on Japanese reading practice, which I'm pretty awful about. I have a one-shot manga by my desk to tackle right now, and if I can manage just 6 pages a day, I'll finish it this month. That's a very easy goal, but I want the sense of accomplishment it would grant me, so I'm off to the races.

Games-wise, I don't have a ton to say, though. I'm levelling up before Lt. Surge's gym in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee and have at least another session of that to go before I hit the gym. It's very exciting stuff.

It's the start of a new month, and I overslept again! 'Tis a cycle I need to break. I'm still plugging along at Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, though, and I cleared all the battles in the SS Anne last night. The ship had a really nice sense of scale in this version, and the passenger rooms looked so cute and cozy! Even though, or maybe because, I played Red, Blue, and Yellow so much, this version of Kanto is still very charming.

I overslept today, so this isn't going to be a very good post. I kept going in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, though, hitting Vermillion City. The Underground Path was really neat, since it looked in 3D like I'd always imagined it would while playing on Game Boy. It was pretty uneventful overall, though, and I'll probably deal with the SS Anne tonight.

Last night, I finally got my whole party to level 20 in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee and went to fight Misty. Her team had lower levels than I'd anticipated, so a lot of my effort was probably pointless! I totally wrecked her, though, it was satisfying.

I'm thinking from here, I'll probably stop working towards the Nuzlocke playstyle. It doesn't add the strategy I'd expected, at least not in this one, and it's such a charming game that I'd rather just relax and enjoy it. None of my Pokemon have been KO'd yet, but I'm just not feelin' it.

I got up earlier than normal to do some cleaning and organization this morning, and did almost none of it, so I'll have that to look forward to after work tonight. As far as yesterday's games go, though, I just did some more levelling in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, going so far as to trounce the trainers in Misty's gym without actually facing her. Needing my whole party to be at level 20 before I fight her is a long term brain worm, but I'm pretty close to it now.

I was unpleasantly zoned out yesterday, so I barely accomplished anything.

Game-wise, I got through another stage in Gris.

I also did a bit more pre-Misty's gym levelling in Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee..

I'm hoping to feel better today, games or not, which'll be a super low bar to clear.

November 26th, 2023

I had an extremely relaxed yesterday, where I wasn't feeling my best, so I ended up playing a lot of games.

First off the bat, I got out my shiny new Switch to get going on my eShop backlog. I have it in my head that I'm not going to buy any new games until April, when Princess Peach: Showtime comes out. I have some stuff on order, both preorder and slow shipping, and five of those six games are JRPGs, so I'm plenty set for that goal on both the "woo, new stuff!" rush and playtime alone.

As part of that, though, I want to work through some of the games I've got, so I started in on Planetarian, one of the shorter visual novels I had sitting around. I don't know what to say about it here yet, since it's legitimately just reading, but in my first play session, it seemed to be imparting the message that nothing helps with PTSD like cute robot girls. I'm okay with sad-robot-sci-fi, and this is ok for that so far.

After that, I tried Gris, as hearing a friend talk about it reminded me that I'd abandoned Game Pass for the month. The wordless storytelling was a sharp contract to the chatty visual novel I'd been playing earlier, and the platforming felt really excellent, so I played a lot longer than I'd intended. I'm looking forward to getting further in this today.

From there, before bed, I did some basic level grinding in my Nuzlocke run of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, too. I am conflicted on catching Pokemon being the main way to level grind in this game, as it gates levelling behind money, but it's kind of an interesting play mechanic. It doesn't seem like it'll become a problem. It was just a thought that I got fixated on while I was half asleep.

I'm looking forward to a relaxed, and hopefully craft-filled Sunday today. I hope there are nice days ahead for the rest of you, too.

Happy Thanksgiving, other US Neocities users! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, because food is the best, and I already have my green bean casserole going. Last night, I made an apple spice cake, and after this post, I'm going to make some mashed potatoes. Cooking and eating is definitely today's going concern.

After baking and a tragically Pikachu's Vacation free viewing of Mewtwo Strikes Back on bluray, though, I did tackle the next chunk of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee. Rather than fighting Misty, I went up to Route 25 and fought the trainers leading up to Bill's house, nabbing my SS Anne tickets early. On the two routes I hit last night, I got a couple of decent new party members, too, scoring a Psyduck and a Venonat. I was satisfied with last night's progress.

November 22nd, 2023

This is my last day of work before a four-day weekend, so I'm in a pretty decent mood this morning. Last night was okay, too! I played around an hour of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, and felt some mild concern as I hit a new route after Mt. Moon and picked up a Rattata. My backup Pokemon if anyone in my party dies aren't the best yet! Tonight, though, I'm hoping to tackle Nugget Bridge and maybe Misty's gym after I get done baking a cake. It's good stuff to look forward to!

November 21st, 2023

I'm doing a quick post before work today, not because I am stressed or in a hurry, but because I don't have all that much to say today.

I pressed on in my quest to reach the top designer level in Fashion Dreamer, and am into the 40s with that now. It is going to take ages to hit the point I'm after.

After that, I played a few minutes of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee, too, starting in on Mt. Moon. With the Nuzlocke rules in play, I felt a bit underlevelled until I realized no random encounter was going to be a battle, saving me from getting hurt by confusion against Zubats. Anyway, I didn't play this for very long because I was sleepy.

November 20th, 2023

Today was my last day of training on my alternate shift, and I'm so relieved it's over! I'm so sleepy I don't even have an appetite, so I'm looking forward to going back to my normal sleep schedule.

As for yesterday, I perhaps finished the main goal in Fashion Dreamer. I logged onto online mode, and a few text boxes popped up that said I was a top influencer. Then, the credits rolled. It was anti-climactic in a really satisfying way. Once I went back in, I'd unlocked a new area to aimlessly wander, so I can change up the scenery a bit more as I max my levels. It was pretty amusing, though, overall.

I went to game night at a friend's house, too, where we played Clue, which I'd never played before, Uno, and the slightly mysterious Rack-O, a card game about putting numbers in order. It was fun, and I was as decent as Rack-O as I was terrible at Clue.

Lastly, I played about half an hour of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee before bed, picking up a couple more Pokemon to serve as unwitting victims in my Nuzlocke challenge. I'm not sure yet if I'll use the Ekans or Zubat, but I'm leaning towards Ekans, just because I like Arbok's design better than Golbat's. I'm going to at least start Mt. Moon if I stay awake for any length of time tonight.

November 19th, 2023

This morning, I made a pan of vegan fudge for a game night with friends, and after having licked my mixing bowl clean, I really have an unfounded boost in self-confidence now, as well as a stomachache. Both will pass.

Last night, though, I got really excited about Pokemon for very little reason, so I started a (heavily modified) Nuzlocke run of Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee. I pieced some half functional rules together from some Google results on the subject and played the first couple hours. Even with this being a pretty easy version of Red/Blue/Yellow, the threat of permadeath and party building limits still built to a reasonably tense first gym leader battle. It's also super cute, which is equally important.

I'll probably keep going with that today, at least a bit, and get back to some of my normal rotation games, too. This should be a pleasant and laid back Sunday.
