What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?
Walk It Out! (Wii)
September 16th, 2024
Yesterday was really busy, and today will be, too. I put a small amount of time into Wixoss Multiverse last night, where my "girls who can set you on fire" party concept is starting to take shape. I feel like I need better overall attack, since chipping away at opponents with burn damage isn't quite enough to win, but I can continue to refine this nonsense.
For my daily workout game, I played Walk It Out! for a while, alarmed at how angry the game's yelling little girl trainer was that I haven't played daily. My attention span isn't good enough for that sort of business, so she can yell at me forever.

I'm still feeling draggy, but am also still plugging away at everything. I started yesterday with a round of Walk It Out!, to see how much of a hassle it would be to use the Wii balance board for before work fitness gaming. It wasn't a problem at all, so I'll probably get another Wii game in my rotation for next week.
Past that, I didn't have a ton of energy for games after work. I did, shockingly, get the special character for the event I'd been grinding out in Magical Circle Guru-Guru. It was a pleasant surprise, and I'll probably take her out for some meaningless slaughter with the rest of my party soon.
I played some more of the story in Prison Noctis, too, and found a drug addict's dead body and some food for a cute lil kitty in the same room. This tonal whiplash did nothing to dissuade me from playing mobile games.

I'm still spacy today, but having a decently productive morning regardless. It required a lot of work last night, since I'd managed my time badly during the week, but I did finish another round of cat-crafts and girl-crafts for last week! The cat was a surprisingly tricky (for me at least!) origami model, from instructions at this link on Instructables. I kept having to bounce between the written instructions and the video, but I'm pleased that I finally got it!
The cross stitch is of Miwa from Jujutsu Kaisen, which I remain too zoomed in on. The pattern is by DiscoveringArdna on Etsy, and after loading up last week, I still have a lot of her little anime patterns to make!
As for games, I scored a Wii balance board yesterday, which is good in that it allows me to exercise in increasingly outdated and dumb ways! It actually worked a lot better than I thought, though. Walk It Out! is the only game I have for it so far, and once I figured out that the balance board prefers the tile part of my floor to the carpeted part, it worked extremely well. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes with more traditional fitness games.
I kept flailing at the event that's running in Magical Circle Guru-Guru: Stardust Adventure, too. I do not believe for a second that I am going to get the event-exclusive character, but I am getting a better grip on the game's systems and how they match up to pieces of the G123 games that make more sense to me. Leveling up just seems so much slower than this one in the others, and I can't figure out if it's just nastier about its pay to win bits or just scaled differently.
I also played two extremely bad runs of Balatro. It wasn't bad luck. I was just tired.
July 1st, 2024
It's the start of July, but today's post isn't going to be anything out of the ordinary. I finished the monthly event in Fashion Dreamer last night, and am ready to set the game aside for a couple of weeks again. I need to tackle unlocks from NPCs and level grinding in this at some point, but it won't be right now.
I did a 40 minute session of Walk It Out!, too, trying to get enough steps to unlock 25 event bubbles. I put a lot of streetlights and trees around the game's little island, and unlocked some songs, too. It said I walked in place 1.2 miles while chasing that goal, but since walking in place is not computing well for me, for whatever reason, I did a bad job at it and am mega sore today. It doesn't make sense to me that I can't figure out the mechanics of something so basic, but I'll keep trying when I've got time for longer workouts.
I did a little level grinding in Metal Slug Attack Reloaded right before bed, already having hit the game's first difficulty spike. I cleared the stage that was giving me trouble, though, and am ready to see my little soldiers get one-shotted in lovely new locales.
June 30th, 2024
Today is the last day of June, bringing me to four games cleared for the month just under the wire! None were RPGs, and none were on GamePass, either, but that is okay. I'm not going to set any goals like that for next month because I don't actually care very much. I'd still like to clear four games again, but without worrying about genre or system.
Yesterday, I cleared Martial Knight, which was a very frustrating experience! The workouts themselves were fine, and were able to clear some shoulder tension that's bothered me for ages, so it wasn't worthless. The game itself doesn't work very well, though. I'm super willing to forgive the strange, asset flip-y looking graphics, but the motion controls were very inconsistent. Plus, scoring itself broke for some moves near the end of the game, not even registering misses. It made the game feel inherently broken. I probably will boot this back up the next time my shoulders hurt too much to focus on my work, but I still wish it worked better.
After finishing that, I booted up Walk It Out!, a very literal walking simulator for Wii scored by Konami's stable of 00s DJs. I just heard of this recently and picked it up right away, not feeling disappointed by my first mile walked-in-place at all. I'm probably going to play again after this post to see how this looks in the daylight, though, since this is linked to real time. I had my Wii clock set wrong when I took this screenshot, so it's not always so dark!
I started in on Metal Slug Attack Reloaded before bed, too, and don't really have many thoughts on it yet. It's definitely a gacha game ported over to Switch as a standard release, for better or worse, but I'm kind of looking forward to participating in power creep without paying up for it. Plus, I don't play enough tower defense stuff to be sick of the genre, which works in my favor here.
I also played a couple more sets of missions in Fashion Dreamer and am hoping to polish off the June event tonight or tomorrow. I'm cutting it pretty close, so I'd at least like to nab the last photo frame before it ends.
