What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

Metro Quester (PS4)

November 10th, 2024

I feel somewhat panicked this morning and am not sure why. I'm a very powerful lady- I even managed to refill the coolant and windshield wiper in my car this morning! It's not a fun vibe, though.

In Metro Quester yesterday, between repeated, horrific losses and information from Steam help discussions, I realized that to beat the final boss, I am going to have to rebuild my entire party to do max damage rather than balancing attack and defense on everyone like I have been doing. In light of this, I am going to take a break from Metro Quester, or at least play it more sporadically, as grinding for item drops feels super unappealing right now. It's some lost time in my RPG quest for sure, but I can make it up with some shorter games.

I played a bit more of Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, too, clearing the first event's story and doing some item gathering style missions. The side story I unlocked was cute, so I was decently satisfied.

My power levels remain low, but I did make good game progress yesterday. I alternated between exploration days in Metro Quester and stuff I needed to do all night after work, finally finding the final boss. I need to level grind some more before I face the boss for real, which I might try this afternoon. It won't be very exciting, but it'll be nice to have this finished.

I didn't play as much of Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade as I had the past couple days, and I'm honestly a little more interested in that than Metro Quester today. This has a really good feeling of progress for a numbers-go-up mobile RPG. I need to level all of my characters up, though. I started off levelling up some strange characters because I found it funny, so my party has a weird balance.

I'm having a really sleepy morning, but it's Saturday, so that's okay.

Last night, I played a short adventure game from my itch.io bundle stash, called I Want To Be A Triangle. It was a cute, fourth wall breaking little quest, and though it was too late at night for the puzzle answers to come to me quickly, it was very doable and not at all frustrating. It was charming, and I'm glad I took a little bit to play it.

I also did some more dungeon crawling in Metro Quester, and am actually in the last area now, I think. At the very least, there's no more space on the map after this. I beat a massive, slightly tedious boss last night, and then plodded through a new area where food spoilage is a common enemy tactic, which is going to be frustrating for this last stretch of the game. I don't think there's a way to counter it, so I just have to take everything out as fast as possible! I'm pretty confident I've got this, though. It'll just take a few more sessions.

This is gonna be a short post this morning because I got distracted by crafts! I got a competent Windows device and tested it with Pseudoregalia, which I hadn't been able to play on my poor old computer. It was so fun, but I don't think I'm going to tackle the whole game right now.

I took out three more bosses and did some very productive exploring in Metro Quester, and got a great new giant bear and small girl party member. I'm considering taking a detour to level them up so they can join my end-game party, as I'm not as close to the end as I'd thought.

Before bed, I played a session of So I'm A Spider, So What?: Ruler of the Labyrinth, too. It was relaxing, but not so scintillating to write about!

Happy Halloween, everyone! This isn't going to be a very good post, but as a big supporter of cats and sweets, I support today's holiday.

Last night, I played a ten day loop in Metro Quester, knocking out two bosses and getting some more exploring in. It was fun, but not super notable.

I got in a couple play sessions of Metro Quester yesterday, making it to the last area, but was too tired to stubbornly refuse to go to bed and, consequently, could not make it very far into that last area. I have to do stuff today, so my new target is going to be to finish it by next weekend. My clear 12 RPGs for the year goal is not going well.

I spent the morning doing some grocery shopping and cooking, so I'm working on this post as some buffalo wing chili simmers. It smells really good, but I want it to cook a while longer, so I'm doing my best to be patient! Sadly, the bruchetta I made is for later, too, so I also can't have that as I wait.

Anyway, I care more about food than video games right now, but I did play Metro Quester for a while last night. I'm really close to the end of the game, and had wanted to clear it last night. Staying up that late seemed like an extremely poor idea, though, so I'll probably try for it today.

I plodded along in So I'm A Spider, So What: Ruler of the Labyrinth, too, clearing the ten level quest on the first two difficulty levels. There's no story or anything, so it feels like a really strange setup, but I guess it saves on background assets.

My sleep was extremely bad last night, so my main goal today is just going to be getting through everything.

Last night, I made some decent progress in Metro Quester, exploring quite a lot and beating another boss. I quit because I got too tired to keep going during a supply stockpiling run, but since I couldn't sleep anyway, I kind of wish I'd just kept playing.

I used So I'm a Spider, So What?: Ruler of the Labyrinth as my fidget toy for yesterday and am actually pretty pleased at how idle an idle game it is. I made distinct progress, with many numbers going up, without paying much attention to it, and got piles done as it ran. I was happy with it.

Last night, I did some stockpiling and exploration in Metro Quester, clearing the boss I was having trouble with and running into some issues with the next, possibly optional one. I'm pretty steadily able to beat the random battle monsters that gave me issues my last play session, though, so levelling up my party and their weapons does help. This is maybe just a matter of patience.

I tried another pinball table launcher last night, too, going with Zaccaria Pinball on Switch. It had a deal where you could get 40 "retro" tables, which seem very simplified, for 2 dollars, so I picked that up and proceeded to waste tons of time on one called Farfalla. These tables aren't super exciting, but they actually seem like they could be great for before-bed gaming. I'll see how it goes!

I'm so glad it's the weekend! Nobody wants to work anymore, especially not me!

I was kind of wiped out last night, so I didn't play much. I did a 10-day loop in Metro Quester, beating a boss I'd been having some trouble with and doing some basic exploring. I found another boss on my travels, but think I'll have to do some equipment hunting and modifying to defeat that one.

I played Magical Circle Guru-Guru: Stardust Memories for a while right before bed, too. I have a lower strength party member right now I was thinking about replacing, and unlocked a lil' cat version of one of the mages just in time to try slotting her in! She should be easy to level up, so I'll see about doing that whenever I give this its next proper play session.

Today's post will be quick, both because I slept too much this morning and because I only played Metro Quester yesterday. I think I'm a little past the game's halfway point now, and since I got an EXP share item and a party member with the skill to double item finds, I'm in the midst of some resource and equipment stockpiling until everyone hits the current max level. It's an immensely satisfying grind.

I just got back from a doctor's appointment, donut time, and the grocery store, and am very happy I have the next two days off work! It's like having a bonus weekend tossed in the middle of the week. I don't have a ton to post about here today, though. I did a ten days of exploration loop in Metro Quester last night, and found a key so I can move forward. Once I picked which locked door to go through, I got another key, which was very nifty, but not the most exciting gaming experience to recount. I'm itchy to play a bit more today, and since I strongly doubt anyone will try to stop me, I probably will.

I've got a strange week ahead, but goal #1 is going to be to get through today's work without too much overtime!

Yesterday, I kept plugging along at my RPG quest with a decent play session in Metro Quester, where I was briefly worried that I softlocked myself. Instead, I think I have to break dozens of blocks of debris to move forward. I'm not sure that's better, but it is at least a clear goal.

Right before bed, I also played the first ten or so minutes of Archlion Saga's companion game, Everdark Tower, too. I don't know that it's counted as a sequel, but there's already been some reused sprites and music within the first 15 minutes. Still, I'm curious to see where it goes.

I let Magical Circle Guru-Guru: Stardust Memories run for a while as I did other stuff, too, making some rare progress in the overall quest. I'm not as sure how to level up effectively in this as I am in some of my other mobile games, which would be disheartening if I cared even a tiny bit more.

Yesterday, it occurred to me that of my goal to beat 12 RPGs in 2024, I have, if I am being generous with the definition of RPG, cleared 3 of them. Because of that, I got really set on figuring out how I can clear 9 RPGs in less than 3 months yesterday. It was unproductive, but fun to consider.

Also unproductively, I kicked off a new RPG yesterday, starting Metro Quester. I intended to play it just a little, and played for two hours. It's a very bare bones dungeon crawler, but I felt really hooked by it! I don't know how much I'll play it during the week, since it's hard to put down and sleep is somewhat important, but I'm looking forward to playing it more.

I finished my first hour or so gameplay loop in Refind Self: The Personality Test Game, and think that it's interpreting a quick reading speed as my being ultra decisive. I have at least two more loops I want to do before calling this one cleared, since there's still stuff I want to explore, and since there's a turn based battle in this, I'm classifying it as an RPG. I feel more powerful that way.

Early in the day, I also played Space Battleship Yamato: Voyagers of Tomorrow while I was refusing to get out of bed. I really did not want to get up, so I made decent progress in repairing my ship. This is the true value of mobile gaming.
