What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?

Catlord (Switch)

September 3rd, 2024

I'm trying to cap the amount of new games I start this month at five, so last night, digging through my Switch library, I settled on going back to Catlord, a Switch freebie that seems quite "inspired by" Vampire Survivors. It turns out that last time I played, I was minutes away from becoming powerful enough to clear it, so last night, I unexpectedly polished it off. Once I got the right upgrades, my cat was powerful enough to stand in the middle of stage one and vacuum up cash while I got ready for bed and played mobile games, so I did that, got every upgrade, and beat every boss in all three stages. There was no ending other than my acceptance that it's time to delete this off of my switch.

Other than that, I didn't do much out of the ordinary. I played a few battle stages in Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star, bringing me two stages away from the end on the easiest mode.

I also fussed with my mobile games, spending the most time in Magical Circle Guru-Guru: Stardust Adventure. It was mostly party management stuff, so it wasn't exciting, but I am steadily doing better at some of the levelled trial battle modes.

I played more than my usual in King of Prism Sparkling, too, because that was what I turned on while farming for cash in Catlord, and that whole deal took longer than I imagined it would.

I'm actually going to try to stick to no new game starts this week, like I was talking about yesterday. Since I've started and not finished dozens upon dozens of games, this shouldn't be much of a challenge.

One of the big benefits I'll get from this is a shot at finishing some of the shorter games I've started, gotten distracted, and not finished on GamePass. I picked Gris back up last night and explored for a little over an hour, finishing the blue levels and reaching the yellow ones. I have no idea what that means in the scope of the game as a whole, but an eel chased me and it was very dramatic. As sedate as this game is, it does not slack on the setpieces.

I played my daily chunk of the Fashion Dreamer event while I was making an unecessairly complicated lunch out of a 38 cent pack of Maruchan ramen. For some reason, I was really set on making my character a cute little St. Patrick's Day outfit, so I did.

Before bed, I played Catlord until I was bored enough to sleep, racking up a lot of the game's static upgrades. When I get every upgrade bought, I guess I'll be done with this, but since I don't play it often, that's not an imminent concern.

Yesterday was not my favorite day, but I did get some games in. Yesterday was a work-from-home day, so during my last break, I snuck off to my room and played Time Gal a few minutes to try and wake up. It did not make me less sleepy, and my play was horrendous, but it was still fun.

Before bed, I also played a few rounds of Catlord, finally taking a look at the second stage and quickly unlocking the third, and final one. They were actually a little disappointing, maybe. The spooky theme is fine, but I felt like fighting skeletons and ghosts instead of just random animals, like at the game's start, lost a little charm. I just play this to fall asleep, though, so it's not a deal breaker.

It's time for another fast post today! I was exhausted yesterday, so most of my game time was spent scumming for upgrades in Catlord. It was boring, but I needed something mindless to play, and this was perfect!

I also played a couple of credits in Time Gal, and made it way further than I expected to on one credit! I felt powerful.

I'm doing a quick lunch break post today, but I am pleased that I finished the Fantasy Fair event in Fashion Dreamer last night! The missions made it way more interesting to play, so I'm going to cut back a bit on it until the next event starts. I might pop in to make or adjust an avatar to use in the next one, but I won't play as much for a couple weeks.

I half-heartedly played a round of Catlord when I couldn't sleep, too. It didn't help, which was kind of disappointing.

I've already been playing an old arcade game on Switch during my breaks today, so I know a little of what I'm going to write about tomorrow. Other than that, I might be rather lazy about games tonight.

Last night was a doozy, but today should be nice! My family's Christmas is this weekend, so I'm going to wrap presents and make cakes today. I might watch a movie, too, but I don't know what.

I was wiped out after I finished everything last night, so I just played a few more games of Catlord. It's so mindless that it really did help me decompress before sleeping. There are worse ways for a game to be!

I feel like things are not going great, but as far as this blog goes, I have decided to play a couple little indie games to take a breather from Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee.

No Gravity Games is doing its holiday Switch game giveaway again, and in their blessed generosity, they have granted me a mediocre cat game to rival last year's Strike Force Kitty. This year's is Catlord, a pretty bare bones take on Vampire Survivors. I didn't love Vampire Survivors, but I *do* love cats, so I'll give this at least a few more plays. It seems like it'll be a good game to doze off to.

I also tried Hero Hours Contract last night, an indie game about magical girl labor negotiations that I'd had unplayed in my Switch library for quite a while. It's a strategy RPG about clearing the screen rather than surviving, which is interesting in and of itself, and I eel like I've barely scratched the surface of it. I like the art, too, so I'm hoping to see this one through to the end.

Tomorrow, I have the day off work, but I'm pretty sleepy, so I might not play much tonight.
