What Video Game Did I Play Yesterday?
August 2023
August 31th, 2023
Yesterday, my trip to Lens Crafters ended in my glasses being broken worse than they were before, with even their repair guy taping the lens back in. I did get an eye exam and a copy of my prescription there, though, so right now, I'm making five online glasses companies race to see how fast they can get glasses to me. (Yes, this is excessive, but it's still distressingly far from the price of one pair of glasses from a brick and mortar store.) The competitors right now are Zenni, Payne Glasses, Zeeool, Vooglam, and Eyebuy Direct, a set of retailers with varying veneers of legitimacy. Even having ordered from them seperately, I am not entirely convinced that Vooglam and Zeeool are actually different shops. It's kind of fun, though, and I am looking forward to my "fashionable" eyewear future. My prescription isn't very complex, so I'm hoping I can get at least one shipment in within a week or so, but if I don't, I don't.
The tape line on my glasses is giving me a headache, so I didn't play any games last night. Skep, who runs a really neat literary blog on here, suggested doing a guest week on my comments, which is a really cool idea and one I might use in the future! Right now, though, I'm so burnt out from work that I can't sort out the moving pieces of an event like that. This blog might just be a bit boring for a few days, and I thank you guys for sticking with me.
I did switch to gift wrap tape from standard scotch, though, which has helped a surprising amount, and I picked up some 6-count cross stitch fabric to do big crafts, so things really might not be so bad! I will see how it goes!

I'm still not good. The lens fell out of my glasses as soon as I got in the car yesterday, so I drove to work with one lens, and then spent the whole work day with it scotch taped in. Today I'm going to Lens Crafters for an eye appointment, but I can't really afford any of their glasses. I'll get my prescription, and if they won't fix my current ones, I'll keep living the taped up glasses life for a couple of weeks.
Last night, I wanted to play a fighting game, so I turned on my PS3 to play Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax. The tape line visible on my glasses all day had given me a headache, though, so I did a couple battles and went to bed.

I can't catch a break! My glasses broke last night, so today I have the lens patched back into the frame with craft adhesive and am being extremely careful so that I can make it through my office day. Whatever my thoughts are about my work, I owe much of my success to my eyesight, so keeping my glasses intact for one more day is crucial. I shoved my glue pen in my office bag for good measure.
Because I was havin' problems last night, I just played Idol Land PriPara for a little bit yesterday. I wanted to buy the current limited coord, available with in game currency, but every time I tried I got an error code and was booted out of the game. It doesn't seem like a problem that'll build goodwill, but I wasn't super bothered by it.
I feel distressed about my glasses situation, but am going to see if I can get some mercy to come in a few minutes late in an attempt to get new glasses tomorrow. Please wish me luck!
August 28th, 2023
Today I have to deal with the fallout of Friday's problems, and feel sick to my stomach worried. I went to see the 4k restoration of Oldboy last night, which was quite a distraction, but unfortunately, did not last until today. My vibes are bad.
last night, I tried to play Dungeon Village 2 for a few minutes but bounced off it hard. I shut the PS4 off after 5 or so minutes.
I finished the second card in the Disney Tsum Tsum sticker book event, too.
August 27th, 2023
My energy is extremely low today, and even though I've been up for a while, I keep trying to procrastinate at doing this post. That's okay, though. My only plan for the day is to take a small trip for a movie quite a lot later, so I don't have to worry about much.
I got back into Idol Land PriPara yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that I could get some decent coords for my character without paying real money. The load times for everything were still atrocious, but a little lower than they had been on Friday. This is still more of a curiosity than anything for me.
I went back to the sticker book in Disney Tsum Tsum, too, and actually had a decent time playing. I want to clear the second card today. Rumor has it I've already been playing this when I should have been writing this post instead, but I'm not sure that can be substantiated easily.
I made another Pokemon model kit while I was talking to a friend last night, too. Lugia was today's choice, and even though I'm decently happy with the end result, I don't feel like the pieces snapped together as well as they should have with this kit. It was kind of irritating.
August 26th, 2023
Yesterday was somewhat worse than I predicted, but that's okay, it was payday. This morning, I've already been to Dollar Tree and paid my bills, so I'm now free and clear to be a bum for the next two days.
I didn't play games much yesterday, but because my focus was awful, this'll still be a decent post. I managed to get into Idol Land PriPara yesterday, a new mobile version of discontinued Japanese arcade game PriPara that has had a... troubled, I guess would be fair to say, launch. Right now, there's kind of a queue to get in, so I've been opening the app every once in a while to see if I can make it work. Yesterday, I did, and while it looks like the pay to pay mechanics might be way less brutal than I expected, the two load times it took to get into one stage exceeded 15 minutes. It ran ok once I got in, but I'd never really seen that in a mobile game before. I'm curious to see how long it takes this to get up and running nicely.
In other mobile games, I briefly toyed with the end of the month Sticker Book event in Disney Tsum Tsum. It's nothing special, but it was an okay distraction to kill a few minutes after work.
I also put a couple more levels into Endless Mode in Bejeweled 2, getting me to 21 of 280 levels cleared for the achievement. It's a good time waster, but a futile feeling goal.
August 25th, 2023
Fridays are horrendous at work, so I super do not want to be awake today. I'm hoping it'll go better than last week, though. For now, I'm doing a short post here. I was too exhausted to play much last night, but I did play Goat Simulator for a bit while I tried to drop the temperature in my apartment below 80 before bed. I was trying to launch the goat off of a water slide and onto a trampoline, but I don't quite have it down yet. It was fun to try, though.
August 24th, 2023
For the last couple of days, it's been 100+ degrees out, and I've been trying to sort some frustrating tech problems with work. Running back and forth to the office and setting up new computers has left me super drained, especially in this weather. Because of that, I almost forgot to post tonight!
Last night, though, I did decide that I wanted to replay some of my Pretty Rhythm and PriPara games, feeling like the siren song of a Japanese arcade machine's no-mercy gacha might make me feel better. It did. I started with the earliest of them I had, Pretty Rhythm: My*Deco Rainbow Wedding, which has an interesting coord (or outfit) gathering system. You stick different stuff on heart shaped gems to get the outfits for your ice skating routines, which take the form of a pretty easy rhythm game. I hadn't played in ages, though, so when I first saw a Prism Jump, the special move, again, I went blank and dropped my idol flat on her butt. It was easy, fluffy fun, though, and I'm glad I picked it back up! I'm still really tired, but I'm looking forward to playing more tonight.
August 23rd, 2023
I am still defeated, but my goal last night was to play something better than Potato Inc. I played Bejeweled 2 for a few minutes and felt like I'd kind of succeeded.
August 22nd, 2023
Last night, I didn't want to put any effort into anything, so I just played Potato Inc again. It was still pretty bad. I didn't feel like it was easy to see how the systems I was upgrading affected my numbers going up in a way that made sense, and the theming is somewhat humorless. I still did not delete it yet.
August 21st, 2023
I'm still extremely tired, but I looked up the word "potato" in the Google Play store last night and downloaded a low-end feeling idle game, Potato Inc. Saturday was National Potato Day, so I had potatoes on my mind. Anyway, it was pretty bad. It didn't feel like there was a good sense of progression like a lot of idle games have, and it was super demanding about watching ads. I want something extremely brain dead on my phone, though, so I'll keep it for at least a couple more rounds of play.
August 20th, 2023
I still wish this weekend could be longer, but yesterday was fine. I played Bejeweled 2 the most, since I still felt pretty tired. In order to get the Endless Mode achievement, you have to beat 280 levels, so I'm going for it.
I tried McPixel 3 on Game Pass last night, too, but don't know if I'll stick with it. The pixel art is super neat, but I don't know that the super fast paced point and click gameplay is my favorite. I'll give it another shot, though, since it's certainly not dull.
I built a little Macross model kit, too, but didn't care enough to take a photo. I might show off the set of three that I've got when I finish the last one.
August 19th, 2023
Yesterday ended up being really bad, with some overtime I definitely was not down for, so I tried to enjoy stuff outside of that. During one of my breaks, I built another of the easy Pokemon model kits, with Mimikyu being yesterday's friend. This, too, came out so cute! I've been really happy with all of these so far.
After work, I got some Arby's fishsticks and went to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem to clear my head, like the fine wine sipping sophisticate that I am. It actually did help a lot, but when I got home, I was set on playing something more involved than Disney Tsum Tsum for the evening. Instead, I turned on my XBox and used Game Pass to play Bejeweled 2. It was maybe a lateral move.
I'm a little down that the weekend will only be two days, but I will make the most of it.
August 18th, 2023
Last night, I just played Disney Tsum Tsum, clearing the standard stages of the current event. I don't know how hard I'll try on the bonus levels, but they're there if I need them.
Fridays can be really harsh sometimes, so I'm not excited to be awake, but hopefully today will be fine.
August 17th, 2023
I'm still solidly not having a good time, so it's another short post today. I played Dungeon Village 2 for a few minutes last night, while I tried to do some other stuff.
I built a couple of super easy Pokemon model kits, too, which was the highlight of my day. Skorbunny came out so cute!
August 16th, 2023
Today, I feel mildly better than I did yesterday. I tried a game on Game Pass last night, Contrast, and it's ok so far. I got motion sickness after just a few minutes, even though a lot of the platforming is 2D, so I didn't play for long. I might keep playing further away from my TV, though. It seems easy, and I read it was short, so it would be a shame to give up.
I played a normal amount of Disney Tsum Tsum, too, and am getting close to clearing the initial part of the flower event.
August 15th, 2023
I still feel pretty down this morning, but in the meantime, I played about 30 rounds of Disney Tsum Tsum last night. Despite the screenshot, I did pretty well overall. Hopefully I can cheer up a little soon.
August 14th, 2023
I had some tech problems this morning, so instead, I'm posting after a bit of overtime and getting dinner in the oven. I am sleepy.
Yesterday, I started playing Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelist of the Roses, a PS2 game I stole from my old house because a British history Yu-Gi-Oh game struck me funny. It was funny, but the tutorial was mind-bogglingly long. I'll play the real game soon.
I played some Disney Tsum Tsum, too, because it's easy and I wanted to.
It is almost time for dinner, so I am going to go be defeated in front of a plate of chicken instead of in front of my computer. Farewell, everyone!
August 13th, 2023
Yesterday ended up being a pretty calm day, but I just didn't have the vibe to play games very much. I cooked, chatted with friends, and built a Gundam, which'll be at the bottom of the post. As far as games went, though, I just played Calm Colors for a few minutes to try and hush my brain up and go to sleep. It was as slow and uneventful as ever, making it perfect to end the day.
Like I mentioned in the last paragraph, I also finished another Gundam yesterday, which I'd been letting drag on in the background for weeks. This one is the Beguir-Beu, one of the Witch From Mercury kits, and I think it came out really impressive. The weapons are really crazy- I love the color scheme on the bayonets, and the wire/stand set up for the attack pods is crazy! When I finished snapping this together, I was really satisfied.
Unfortunately, this kit is a little too weighed down with all of the neat weapons to stand easily, so I'll need to get an action base. That is okay, though.
I want to try to do panel lining on my next kit, so please look forward to this disaster.
August 12th, 2023
My late work wasn't so bad at all last night, and I'd loaded my rice cooker early in the day to make dinner low maintenance. I was tired, though, and my ear ringing was still bothering me, so I didn't do much useful at all. Instead, I cashed in some hearts (the game's energy) I had stored up and played Disney Tsum Tsum for a while. I'm two-thirds of the way through this month's event now, so I think I'll keep going for a while today. I just want a low challenge day today, though, so achieving that will be my biggest goal.
August 11th, 2023
I had to work a couple hours late last night, so I stayed up too late last night playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 to try to claw some of my own time back. This morning, I am tired and realize this was a bad idea, but it was so fun while I was doing it.
August 10th, 2023
As of today, I am still not killin' it. Yesterday, I had a stress point where one of my ears started ringing, and it hasn't stopped yet, which is not an additional snag I needed. Today I am going to try to have a good day and enjoy things, though. I know I can do it!
Last night, as both an "abandoned game" and "a very good game that helps me relax," I played Pokemon Puzzle League for a bit, clearing the fifth st of Spa Service (line clear) stages without any real hitches. It made me feel powerful.
August 9th, 2023
Yesterday, I never really pepped up from the bad spot I was in when I got up, so it was a super low games day. I did play a couple levels of Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins before bed, though. It was fun enough, and it seems like it's maybe good to circle back to some of these games I'd previously dropped for more than one play session.
August 8th, 2023
I got destroyed yesterday, and am still really under the weather today, so this'll be a short post. I played Dungeon Village 2 a bit more while doing crafts last night. I didn't make any real progress, but still chipped away at my five star village rating.
To decompress after work, I built a cute little model of Kirby, too! I used the blue in the eyes, mouth, and cheeks for some paint testing, and learned how not to use a flourescent Gundam Marker. Still, I'm really satisfied with the cuteness level here.
I didn't play any long set aside games last night because I was too tired. Tonight might not be any better.
August 7th, 2023
My nervousness is sky high this morning, for no real reason, but I am doing a short post now to get going and hopefully do my best today. Dungeon Village 2 was my most played game yesterday, since I had it running while I did some crafts, allowing me to enjoyably half-focus on each. I got my village up to for stars and started chipping away at five. It looks like getting that last star for my first village will be a little grindy, but that's how games go sometimes.
My "abandoned" game for yesterday was Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, which I played for one level and went to sleep. It's a fun game while I'm playing, but I'm having trouble getting into it.
I also played a little more Disney Tsum Tsum, chipping away at the monthly event. I got one of the month's special characters in the gacha, and even though she's not great, skill-wise, she'll be helpful to get character bonuses if I get stuck in the event.
August 6th, 2023
This is a pretty big post today, but I don't know that anything in it is super interesting. Somewhat counterintuitively, though, I want to start today's post by showing off a really neat Pokemon model kit I built last night! The instructions were kind of strange, saving the stickers for the end. Since I'd been forewarned about that in an Amazon review, though, it ended up not being so much of a hassle for me. I really like how this Ho-Oh came out, though, and it was a nice, quick build! It won't be the last Pokemon model to show up here by a longshot.
I'm not sure where to start with the games I played yesterday, so I guess I'll take the easy route and go in chronological order. I picked up Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 on PS4 yesterday, because screw my game clearing goals, it was inexpensive and I'd wanted it for quite a while. (Those are still in play for full priced games, for now.) I only intended to play for a few minutes, but I did end up sitting on the floor with it for a decent amount of time. It was super easy to get back into, even if this wasn't ever a series I was very good at, and I felt fancy using a revert in Pro Skater 1 levels. The manual didn't feel as out of place, even though I know that was introduced in 2. Maybe it was folded in for the XBox version of 2 with a bunch of the first game's levels thrown in? I'm not sure, but it doesn't matter much. This got off to a fun start.
After that, I played Disney Tsum Tsum for a while, since my game co-conspirator messaged me about a way she was getting wild amounts of coins per round. I gave it a shot, and couldn't hit the same heights she sent screenshots of, but am also flat out not as good at the game. For me, though, I was still racking up some pretty wild payouts, so it was satisfying. She also let me know that this month's event is short and low effort, so I think I'll see if I can clear it, dull theming or not. I cleared the easy stage last night.
Finally, for my "long lost game" of the night, I played a bit of Wario's Woods at 2:00 AM. I can't instantly jump in and out of Wario's Woods like I can a lot of other puzzle games. The mechanics are fun once I get going, but they're not very intuitive, and are maybe a little complicated, too. That late at night, I wasn't putting a ton of effort into it, but I might pick it back up when I'm more awake soon.
August 5th, 2023
I've already been to the local mall today, to pick up an online order from Hot Topic like the classy adult that I am, so I feel like today's post is much later than it really is. For a weekend, though, 11 am is actually fairly normal for me.
Last night, I had really awful post-work-week-burnout, so I turned on my PS3 to play a quick level of Sonic Adventure. I wouldn't say that I played for ages, really, maybe just an hour, but it had been so long since I'd played that I'd forgotten how pretty, weird, and easy to get caught up in this game is. I played from the casino stage to the first sky chase in the Tails section last night, with a lot of just wandering around between things. Since I was tired, I really appreciated that the Omega boss in the water hadn't been tweaked for Tails's abilities at all, meaning I could just kind of float above all the attacks and descend when it was my turn to hit. It was a nice, low stress time.
More pathetically, I also played Disney Tsum Tsum for a while because I wanted to play a game, but was too tired to get out of my chair and turn a console on.
I kind of doubt I'll play anything interesting today, even on the "games I abandoned for a few months" front that Sonic Adventure slotted into today. I'm still kind of sleepy and disinterested, and I mostly just want to eat pasta and read manga. I'm sure I'll feel better later, though, and I'll play something for sure.
August 4th, 2023
I went on a walk last night and my allergies still haven't recovered! It'll be a fun work day for sure.
For this blog, though, I set up my PS2 and played Activision Anthology a little last night, having not touched it since I replaced my PS2. I sat down to play Freeway for a bit with the goal of making the chicken cross the road 20 times. When I was a little kid, it had seemed so difficult! I got it right away, forcing the dark realization that at the age of 4, I was actually pretty bad at video games.
I took a very brief crack at the monthly event in Disney Tsum Tsum, too, but the "give flowers to princesses" theme is kind of boring. I played three rounds and went to sleep.
August 3rd, 2023
Last night, I had House Flipper up and ready to go when I was ready to play video games. Last time, I'd quit frustrated that the controls were so touchy I couldn't get a sink installed. Upon turning it on last night, though, I didn't really have any control issues, and the sink was super easy to install. That being said, I couldn't really get into it from there. I like a nice boring game sometimes, but the painting wasn't clicking with me the same way Powerwash Simulator does. I'll keep this on my XBox and probably give it another go, though. It may be more that I don't love this specific task more than an overall issue with the game.
August 2nd, 2023
Today will be a shortish post due to some tech trouble and being awake trouble.
I wanted to play House Flipper as my "game I abandoned" last night, but I'd uninstalled it from my XBox and didn't want to wait around. While I waited, I turned Eastern Exorcist on, which I ended up turning back off pretty quickly because I was too tired for the long play session I'd want to spend with the game. I beat one boss, but it wasn't much play at all.
From there, I wanted to wind down and House Flipper still hadn't redownloaded, so after months away, I picked Dr. Mario 64 back up. This is a version of Dr. Mario that plays well and has no major issues, but it plays the wrong music, so unfortunately, I don't like it. It is very arbitrary, but luckily, in life, no one really forces you to play the versions of puzzle games you don't prefer. This is a passing problem.
August 1st, 2023
It's a new month, and I want to start blogging somewhat cheerfully. I talked about this some yesterday, but for August, I want to take the time to return to some of the games I set aside a while ago without finishing, whether it's to make progress in a game I'll eventually come back to later, give things a second chance, or just to remember why I dropped the game in the first place. Maybe it's not very productive, but since it's a plan that takes advantage of my poor attention span, I'm all for it.
Last night, I felt really burned out after working a bit late and not being able to turn my brain off for hours afterwards. I picked Money Puzzle Exchanger back up as a relaxing puzzle game and promptly got destroyed, as it's a decently difficult game. Once I got settled and reacclimated to the currency rates, I got destroyed again, just a little slower. I like this game- the uneven amount of pieces that you have to match up (as in, you need five 100 yen coins to change them to a 500, but only two 50s to change to a 100) is an interesting snag in the puzzle game formula. I also feel like it is slightly beyond my power to get good at it, which is fine.
After that, I went back to Jarataire RPG for some easy before bed gaming and picked up a couple of the stage two wind element monsters. Now that I've hit stage 3, I don't recruit everyone in my first match against them, stretching things out a bit.
I am very tired, but I'm gonna try to go to McDonalds for breakfast before my office day and see if I can think past work to stay peppy.
